Charter Communications, Inc, seeks Principal Engineer I to contribute to improving the time-to-market of software by engaging technology teams in the architectural design and planning phases to identify gaps in technical requirements and determine development and testing needs for technology. Plan, forecast, and identify resource requirements for highly complex cable, telecommunications, and wireless networking systems. Utilize Atlassian collaboration tools, including Jira and Confluence, Visio, and Lucid, and network tools including OSI Model, TCP/IP, and Optical Transport to track and communicate technical issues and system requirements with engineering and business partners. Participate in network planning and produce network architecture designs using Bridging, Switching, Routing, Ethernet and, network transport technologies including DOCSIS, Remote Physical (RPHY), Distributed Access Architecture (DAA), Open Systems Interconnection and Transmission Control Protocol (OSI/TCP), and Routing protocols including Routing information protocol (RIP), Interior gateway protocol (IGRP), Enhanced interior gateway routing protocol (EIGRP), Exterior Gateway Protocol (EGP), Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), Immediate system-to-immediate system (IS-IS), Domain name system (DNS), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), File Transfer Protocol (FTP), Internet Protocol (IP), Open Shortest Path First (OSPF), Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP), Address Resolution Protocol (ARP). Ensure network designs abide by industry specification and standards, including IEEE, ANSI, and Fiber (multimode, Single mode, and UTP). Perform engineering activities that maintain and enhance the company's telecommunications and signal processing hardware, software, and electrical systems. Perform end-to-end testing for all Line-of-business in lower environments/Mini Charters. Support high priority initiatives and help development and test teams identify needs for end-to-end lab integration. Participate in Program/Project planning to include pre-deployment activities, e.g., Proof-of-Concept testing. Collaborate with Architects to develop system-level and application-level designs that align with the overall solution. Work with Project/Product Managers, Product Owners, RTE, and Scrum masters to verify and validate project needs for setting Lab environment expectations. Ensure the architectural solutions meet current and future strategic goals. Conduct detailed technical reviews and gap analysis of system architecture to ensure lab hardware and/or firmware needs are considered in the design. Identify reusable components and existing tools, automation scripts, training materials, etc. and coordinate enhancements in the design. Provide architectural diagram, test strategy enablers, and test playbooks to impacted teams as needed. Coordinate with impacted ITLS and external teams to inform lab infrastructure buildouts e.g., NTG, EON, VDE, Video LEO, Voice Engineering, ENDS, etc. Plan, forecast, implement, and identify resource requirements and bandwidth needs for telecommunications network systems within the 11 different DOCSIS regions across Charter. Develop and implement network enhancements and recommend improvements. Integrate communication architectures, topologies, hardware, software, transmission and signaling links, and protocols into complete network configurations. Implement approved network architecture and designs. Evaluate new software and resolve network issues. Maintain and upgrade the DOCSIS platform by performing configurations on Cable Modem Termination Systems (CMTS) and new turn-ups. Initiate enhancements by providing feedback and ideas to related teams for efficiency and accuracy.

Requires Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or related field. 5 years of experience working with highly complex cable, telecommunications, and wireless networ ing systems; utilizing network tools, including OSI Model, TCP/IP, and Optical Transport, to track and communicate technical issues and system requirements; planning networks and producing network architecture designs using Bridging, Switching, Routing, Ethernet and, network transport technologies including DOCSIS, Remote Physical (RPHY), Open Systems Interconnection and Transmission Control Protocol (OSI/TCP); and ensuring network designs abide by industry specification and standards, including IEEE, ANSI, and Fiber (multimode, Single mode, and UTP). Hybrid (office and remote) work arrangement is available.

Salaries depend on geography, experience, and education; negotiations begin at $162,594 per year.
