The 2025 hiring range is $76,128 - $103,500 annually Salary depends on education and/or experience You are required to be Colorado P.O.S.T. certified by December 31, 2024. This application process is for our July 2025, In-House Mini Academy.

Academy (Police Academy) for THIS position. You MUST be Colorado P.O.S.T. Certified by July 7, 2025, to be eligible for this position.

All candidates hired for this academy will receive a $1,500.00 sign on bonus, plus up to $800.00 a month for childcare reimbursement during initial training while grant funds are available* (*conditions apply). This is an appointed position that works at the pleasure of the Sheriff. This position is responsible for performing a variety of complex law enforcement duties. This position enforces Federal and State laws and County ordinances for the protection of life, health, safety, welfare and property. This position works under the general supervision of a Sergeant. Duties EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following duty statements are illustrative of the essential functions of the job and do not include other non-essential or marginal duties that may be required. Performs routine patrol duties for the purpose of preventing, detecting, and responding to suspicious or illegal activity. Responds to calls for service on an emergency or non-emergency basis. Conducts initial investigations of crime scenes/incidents to obtain pertinent facts and information. Conducts interviews of witnesses, victims, participants, or suspects at the scene of an incident or crime. Collects and preserves evidence and property at the incident or crime scene. Arrests suspects involved in misdemeanor/felony criminal activity; writes citations to individuals for minor violations of the law. Prepares reports, forms, and documents related to patrol activities. Utilizes in car computer system to: write reports, self-dispatch to calls for service, obtain call history, obtain history and in house records on contacted individuals. Appears in court as witness/complainant to provide testimony. Provides assistance, direction, and support to persons in need during non-law enforcement emergency and non-emergency situations. Is committed to a high standard of safety laws, and all of the Sheriff's Office policies and rules, and must be willing to report safety violations and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management person Maintains regular and acceptable attendance at a level that is determined at the Sheriff's Office discretion. Is available and willing to work such overtime per day or per week as the Sheriff's Office determines is necessary or desirable to meet its needs. Follows and supports the mission, values, organizational philosophies, operational principles, code of conduct, and policies and procedures of the Sheriff's Office. Interacts effectively with others and exercises good judgment when dealing with people in sensitive situations. Performs duties regularly assigned to the Sergeant level in the absence of the Sergeant as a temporary duty. May have to act as incident commander until a higher ranking person assumes command. May be assigned other duties as necessary. Requirements REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Working knowledge of law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques and equipment. Working knowledge of the policies, procedures, and methods utilized by the Agency. Working knowledge of Federal and State law, County ordinances. Ability to maintain Agency proficiency standards in the use of firearms. Ability to safely op rate a County vehicle in normal and adverse conditions. Ability to define community policing as an evolving organizational strategy and personal philosophy based on a set of values emphasizing problem solving partnerships with neighborhoods which create and improve communities. Ability to acquire skill in the use of related office and field equipment. Ability to use computers as required by position. Ability to successfully complete in-service/mandatory training. Ability to act with tact and impartiality. Ability to read and understand applicable Federal, State, and local laws. Ability to remain calm and respond appropriately to emergency and/or threatening situations. Ability to protect oneself and others in threatening situations. Ability to physically subdue and control unruly and resisting individuals. Ability to perform law enforcement duties requiring good psychological and physical condition. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, fellow workers, court officials, suspects, witnesses, other law enforcement officials, and the general public. Ability to pass established annual physical testing. Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written English. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: High School graduate or G.E.D. equivalent. EXPERIENCE: No specific experience required, OR any equivalent combination of education and experience that satisfy the requirements of the job as approved by the Sheriff. CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSES: Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) certification.
