Robert Half Public Staff Tax Accountant in Cedar Rapids, Iowa

Description We are offering an opportunity for a Tax Analyst to join our team in a remote setting. Based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, this role is within the public tax accounting industry and offers a short-term contract employment opportunity. The successful candidate will be tasked with evaluating tax laws annually, overseeing changes and implementing them in our software process, among other responsibilities. The role involves a high level of collaboration with the entire team to ensure tasks are divided and conquered effectively.

Responsibilities:

• Evaluate changes in tax laws annually and identify how these changes should be implemented in our software processes.

• Compare and update forms from different states with prior year records and implement updates in the system accordingly.

• Test changes made in the system to ensure there are no errors and that all updates function as expected.

• Participate in daily meetings to review current status and requirements, and collaborate with the team to divide tasks effectively.

• Communicate with state representatives to confirm the correctness of changes made and ensure all standards are met.

• Use Mathmaster software to identify and implement changes, running tests to ensure the 'build' is good and that no other system functions are affected.

• Be a subject matter expert in a specific area as assigned by the team lead.

• Maintain a high level of technical proficiency, demonstrating the ability to use various software and applications confidently.

• Use Microsoft Excel and other accounting functions to process and track changes accurately.

• Provide excellent customer service by resolving customer inquiries related to tax changes and updates. Requirements • Proficient in CCH ProSystem Fx and CCH Sales Tax

• Experience with Gosystem and other management systems

• Ability to effectively use Microsoft Excel for various accounting functions

• Knowledge of auditing principles and practices

• Experience in handling cash activity

• Understanding of compliance regulations within the taxation sector

• Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality customer service

• Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

• Attention to detail and high level of accuracy

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is required

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification is preferred

• A minimum of two years of experience in public accounting or related field

• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills

• Strong ethical standards and high levels of integrity

• Ability to respect and maintain confidential information

• Willingness to continually update skills and knowledge in the field of taxation.
