Lab Tech I - Cedar Rapids, IA

This is full-time, non-exempt.

Job Summary

Laboratory Technicians at 14N are responsible for conducting routine in-process and finished product testing in a safe, accurate, and orderly manner. Testing methods include wet chemistry and instrumental analysis. Laboratory technicians are responsible for Instrument maintenance and troubleshooting; general laboratory housekeeping and cleanliness; and diligent documentation and recordkeeping. Laboratory technicians must have the ability to relocate equipment and supplies. Must have the ability to walk long distances, stand for long periods of time, and climb stairs and ladders. Will occasionally be required to lift up to 50 lbs.

Education

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in science or equivalent work experience is preferred.

Requirements/Job Duties

  • The willingness and ability to work a rotating 12-hour shift including nights, weekends, holidays and on-call coverage.

  • Actively participate in training efforts and safety initiatives.

  • Attention to detail following procedures, proper analytical techniques, and computer entry.

  • Good judgment in reporting errors or unusual conditions.

  • Communicate results, problems, and priorities to manager and production departments in a timely manner.

  • Strong computer skills including accurate data entry, the use of LIMS databases, and MS Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, OneNote, etc.)

  • Ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures or complicated technical instructions.

  • Ability to utilize mathematics.

  • Flexibility in accepting change and an attitude of continuous improvement.

  • Maintain proper housekeeping and cleanliness in all work areas.

  • Maintain routine supplies in work areas, reorder as needed, and notify manager when additional items are required.

  • Prepare in process and finished product samples, perform analytical testing using instrumentation and record results using LIMS data systems.

  • Perform Maintenance and Calibrations of Laboratory equipment.

  • Analyze instrumentation results, troubleshoot as necessary to ensure systems are operating accurately.

  • Maintain an effective and respectful working relationship with fellow employees.

  • Perform duties following all safety protocols. Report hazards, incidents, and near misses in a timely manner, as well as, suggest improvements.
