College Community School District / Prairie Schools Chief Financial Officer for College Community School District in Cedar Rapids, Iowa
The College Community School District is seeking an energetic, creative, student-centered and experienced School Business Official to serve as Chief Financial Officer beginning July 1, 2025. College Community School District is a growing district serving over 5,700 students in the Cedar Rapids - Iowa City Corridor. College Community employs over 1100 high quality teachers, support personnel and administrators at 10 school sites, two program sites and a central bus/maintenance facility. College Community has an annual general operating budget of $77M and has recently completed a 10-year facilities plan including the renovation of the high school and three elementary schools; new construction of an intermediate school, early childhood center and agricultural education facility; renovations to former intermediate school in order to open a 9th grade center and choice alternative high school site. Currently, the District is in the process of building a District-owned, YMCA-run recreation facility supported by a 2023 $43M referendum and financial support from the City of Cedar Rapids that is slated for completion in Spring of 2026.
The Chief Financial Officer will provide strategic expertise and leadership in business and operational functions of the district in such a way as to provide the best possible educational services with the financial resources available. Primary support responsibilities include preparation of the annual budget, oversight of business office functions and support structures (including supervision of Accounting Supervisor-Business Office Manager and other Business Office staff), oversight of district operations through three directors (Nutrition, Transportation and Building and Grounds), continuous monitoring and adherence state/federal regulations/reporting, assisting with ensuring on-time and on-budget completion of capital projects.
The successful candidate will hold an undergraduate or advanced degree in accounting or school district administration and must be currently endorsed as an Iowa School Business Official. Previous experience in school business office settings is required; previous experience as a school business official and managing others is preferred. They will also display the highest levels of quality in interpersonal communication, confidentiality, systems thinking and ethical decision-making.
The salary for this position will be a minimum of $150,000 and a generous benefit package with the final salary based on relevant experience. The candidate will be expected to begin this position no later than July 1, 2025.
