Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe Truancy Case Manager in Cass Lake, Minnesota

Position Description: Truancy Case Manager Division: Child Welfare Reports to: Truancy Coordinator Worksite: Child Welfare Department Work Hours: M- F, 8:00am- 4:30pm LLBO Status: Non-Exempt Safety Sensitive: Yes License/Certification Requirements: Valid MN Driver's License, current insurance or be insurable. Summary: Responsible for the implementation and development of a truancy program for the Leech Lake Child Welfare Department. The goal is to prevent and reduce truancy of Leech Lake children and youth attending area schools. Education Requirements and Experience: Associate's Degree in Education, Social Work, or another related field. May be waived if in the process of obtaining. Two years experience in planning and offering services to American Indian children and families is preferred. Experience in Microsoft Office applications is required Duties/Responsibilities: Upon referral, conduct home visit to educate parents/guardians of options available to resolve truancy problems. Develop case plans with parents and student to assist in resolving truancy issues. Identify resources and advocate for family to receive services from agencies that may assist in resolving truancy. Maintain a contact form to document activities of agency contact, parent involvement, and student progress. Provide on-going advocacy and support for students in school and in court. Send notice to school truancy personnel to inform them of court hearings. Submit court reports within the accepted time frame required by court. Attend truancy related court hearings and make recommendations to court regarding truancy cases. Prepare a weekly written report to school truancy personnel to inform them of student progress made and/or status of court orders. Collaborate with other programs to facilitate youth group activities and plan for truancy improvement incentives. Attend regular truancy meetings coordinated by the school districts. Prepare reports on local program activities and share with program staff and management as needed. Maintain client records through State Reporting System (SSIS). Maintain a respectful working relationship with Leech Lake Reservation programs and other agencies. Meet deadlines and prioritize workload. Work effectively with minimal supervision. Attend program activities outside normal working hours as necessary. Attend and/or conduct all mandatory meetings and trainings. Support and maintain sensitivity to Native American culture, lifestyles, and values. Travel in and out of the state as needed. Maintain a high degree of confidentiality and professional ethics at all times. Adhere to all applicable data privacy laws. All other duties as assigned.
