The Parker Lord APS Division is looking for a Process Engineer III, to join our Structural Adhesives product line team. This role is on-site at our Cary, NC campus in a Chemical Lab and Pilot Plant environment. The team member will be responsible for process development, scale-up of new products, and supporting existing Structural Adhesive products. The position will ensure the safety, quality, manufacturing, and technical performance for new and existing manufacturing processes to support our global manufacturing plants. The role will lead projects of moderate to high complexity and serve as a Process Engineer resource for our global teams. This role will often work in project teams interfacing with different functions and would need excellent teamwork and interfacing skills.

  • Project leader for new innovative process development projects and scale-up projects of medium to high complexity.

  • Collaborate with Product Development/Application Engineering/Manufacturing/Regional teams/Business teams and Process Development staff to achieve project results.

  • Communicate verbally and in writing regarding various topics to management, manufacturing facilities, peers, and decision makers.

  • Actively invents, develops and implements new process technologies/solutions.

  • Able to evaluate current chemical manufacturing processes and identify areas of improvements regarding safety, quality, throughput, cost of manufacture, simplify process, and/or eliminate waste.

  • Strategic technical leadership by identifying new solutions, new equipment, new suppliers for existing challenges.

  • Responsible for ensuring achievements of appropriate safety, quality, quantity, cost - effectiveness, reproducibility, and timeliness of results.

  • Leads external trials with suppliers,

  • Design of experiments, utilizing advanced statistics, chemical analysis sensors to troubleshoot process problems.

  • Promotes safety and may lead in the development of new lab safety procedures.

  • Conducts training for staff.

  • Requires up to 20% travel within the US, with likely international travel.

Required Qualifications

  • Required Education:A Bachelor's Degree in Polymer Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science or similar. Masters Degree or PhD Preferred.

  • Required Work Experience:5 years of relevant work experience. With Masters degree, 4 years of relevant work experience. With PhD, 0 years of relevant experience.

  • Technical Knowledge:Ability to apply advanced technical principles, theories, and concepts. Contributes to development of new principles and concepts within Parker Lord. Advanced knowledge of products/chemistry and or industry - detailed customer application, troubleshooting, failure analysis, detailed value proposition elements. A knowledge resource for their team. SME in one or more subjects.

  • Impact:Track record of completing medium complexity projects. Leads high complexity projects of multiple projects of various complexity. May also lead portions or a major project as a team member. Failure to obtain goals would typically results in serious project delays and considerable expenditure of resources. Independently lead DFMEA, PFMEA, or advanced engineering events. Leading advanced engineering trail at critical customers.

  • Problem Solving:Track record of implementing technical solutions to a wide range of highly complex problems. Solutions should generate intellectual property (patents, trade secrets) for Parker Lord. Solutions are imaginative, thorough, practical and consistent with organizational objectives. Advanced designed and execution of any set parameters. Advanced data analysis, report generation. Expert understanding and utilization of engineering tools, methods, and processes (FMEA, process audits, troubleshooting, etc).

  • Independence:Works with limited direction toward predetermined long-range goals and objects. Assignments are often self-initiated. Determine and pursue courses of action necessary to obtain desired results.

  • Collaboration:Represents organization as prime technical contact on projects. Interactions with senior external personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations. Coaches and mentors less experienced personnel in technical development. Able to perform as a lead engineer with any customer. Can train/mentor field work for colleagues at lower grade levels. Has experience with several large customers and track record of supporting them unsupervised.
