Position Summary:
Parker Lord is looking for an Associate Scientist in the Structural Adhesives Product Development teams of the APS Division. This role is located in Cary, NC. The Product Development teams formulate and launch new Structural Adhesives for our customers around the globe. This role is in a laboratory environment, working on projects for external customers, internal manufacturing plants, or internal technical staff. The person will be working alongside other scientists, engineers, and technicians in a safe, inclusive, and data driven environment. The role will be executing experiments, formulating adhesives or gap fillers, running test equipment, or other chemical procedures. Data analysis and communicating results in written reports and verbal meetings will be commonly needed.

Responsibilities:
Behave with strong safety awareness and adherence to the company's quality and ethics standards.
Consistently perform routine laboratory assignments of moderate complexity and scope under minimal supervision.
Actively train co-workers in the proper methods of performing work assignments.
Make adaptations and modifications of experimental procedures where needed, including suggestions regarding formulations, samples, tests, equipment, etc.
Make suggestions and participate in team continuous improvement activities.
Obtain and record accurate and complete data, creating the appropriate forms for specific assignments on a consistent basis.
Communicate results effectively through both oral and formal written reports to appropriate personnel as requested.
Oversee laboratory equipment and supplies.
Involved in the specification and purchase decisions of new equipment and may take responsibility for more general Technology needs.
Identify and understand problems and issues from internal and external customer's perspective and seek to find feasible and effective solutions.
Limited travel expected.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in chemistry, materials science, polymer science, chemical engineering or related field is preferred.
5 years of technical/lab experience required if candidates has no bachelors degree.
Experience as a contractor, intern, co-op, or team member within the Parker Lord chemical divisions is preferred.
Must be a US Citizen or US Permanent Resident.
Possess basic knowledge of assigned chemical product line(s).
Ability to gain strong trust and confidence of all internal customers through quality work and responsive service.
Ability to apply basic statistics and interpret results.
Ability to independently work and use digital equipment.
Job Dimensions:
Impact: Completing tasks under manager or senior engineer's guidance with moderate complexity and scope. Learning to lead low complex project. Ability to independently address root cause, corrective actions for moderate field failure or experiment failures. Able to author low complexity LSRs and test reports. Able to write work instructions for equipment and processes.
Technical Knowledge: Consistent track record of use and demonstration of technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques. Basic knowledge of their product line and/or industry.
Problem Solving: Track record of solving non-routine technical problems of moderate scope and complexity across the entire team. (Parker Lord Service requests, design and execution of multi-factor investigations, in-depth data analysis, in-depth report generation). Awareness and possible participation in engineering tools, methods, processes (DOE, Troubleshooting, etc.). Ability to interpret results and modify the methods to advance the investigation.
Independence/Discretion/Latitude: Track record of independently performing non-routine tasks and equipment utilization across entire team and outside teams. Work under general supervision. Follows established procedures. Work is reviewed for soundness of technical judgment, overall adequacy, and accuracy.
Liaison: Contacts are primarily with immediate supervisor, project leaders, and other professionals in the section or group.
