       Description: Assistant Middle School PrincipalJob Summary: POSITION GOAL: To use leadership, supervisory and administrative skills as to promote the educational development of each student to the maximum. To use leadership, supervisory and administrative sills in aiding the middle school principal in the areas of student discipline and supervision of instruction. To use leadership, supervisory and administrative skills in supervising middle school home activities and athletic events. Serves as K-12 Special Education Services Director for the district. (See Director of Special Education Job Description) PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Promotes positive action toward the realization of school objectives through efficient procedures, co-curricular activity management, work with students, involvement with parents, and interaction with teachers. 2. Is a part of the public relations program that helps foster the understanding and support of the mission of the school and the school District. 3. Assists in the recruiting, screening, hiring, training, and evaluation of certified and non-certified personnel as directed by the principal. 4. Oversees the day-to-day management of students in the building that encourages a high standard of student conduct and includes the following responsibilities: A. Deals directly with students referred to the office for disciplinary reasons. B. Oversees and manages the detention/suspension policies and system. C. Communicates with parents and schedules conferences as necessary to deal with student disciplinary matters. D. Assists in the enforcement of district attendance policies and works closely with the guidance counselor who oversees student attendance. E. Is proactive in student management through presence in the building and building relationships with students. 5. Assists in establishing and maintaining a high standard of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary according to due process of the rights of students. 6. Assists in carrying out the responsibility for the safety of all personnel and provides leadership in the management of crisis situations. 7. Assists in the preparation of reports, records, lists, and other such paperwork required by local policy and state law as requested by the principal. 8. Assists in the defining and delegating of appropriate supervisory responsibility for all middle school activities. Assists in the encouragement of proper conduct of participants and spectators for all public events. 9. Assists in the recruiting, screening, hiring, training, assigning, and evaluating certified and non-certified personnel assigned to the school. 10. Assists in the development of and implementation of a staff-improvement program for teachers in the building. 11. Assists in the preparation of student and teacher handbooks. 12. Works closely with and serves on the Middle School Building Assistance Teams. 13. Assumes responsibility for the school in the absence of the principal. 14. Keeps abreast of trends, promising ideas, and research in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional literature and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field. 15. Assists in the coordination of STAR activities. 16. Serves as a member of the Responsibility Team. 17. Assists in the development and implementation of accommodations to Section 504 ADA and IDEA for the building. 19. Assists in the communication of the school's philosophy, purposes, programs and problems to the students, staff, central staff, board, and community. 20. Assists in the development of appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of students in the Carroll Community School District and assume responsibility for the enforcement of all disciplinary policies. 21. Assist in the organization, planning and implementation of summer school programs. 22. Serves as curriculum follow-through chair. 23. Assists in the general supervision of common areas. 24. Performs such other duties as the superintendent or middle school principal may assign. Qualifications:QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Appropriately licensed in Iowa as a teacher. Valid Iowa Certificate in School Administration 2. Master's Degree in School Administration or willing to obtain. 3. Iowa Evaluator Approval 4.
