Responsibilities:
Developing Production Plans:
The PCM is responsible for creating detailed production plans based on sales forecasts, historical data, and other relevant factors. This involves determining what products to produce, in what quantities, and when to produce them to meet customer demand while optimizing resources.
Creating Master Production Schedule:
The PCM develops a master production schedule that outlines the timing and quantity of each item to be produced over a specific time horizon. This schedule serves as a blueprint for manufacturing activities and guides production activities on the shop floor. This is across multiple SBU's and internally across multiple Production lines and Fabrication Areas. Ensure that all production requirements are in infralink with workflow.
Balancing Supply and Demand:
One of the primary responsibilities of the PCM is to balance supply and demand by ensuring that production capacity aligns with sales forecasts and customer orders. This involves adjusting production schedules in response to changes in demand, resource availability, or other factors that may impact production efficiency.
Coordinating with Cross-Functional Teams:
The PCM is an extension of the MMC production team and provides the role of project collaboration and production planning. The PCM collaborates closely with different project teams to gather relevant information and coordinate production activities effectively.
Managing Inventory Levels:
The PCM monitors inventory levels of finished goods, raw materials, and work-in-progress to ensure that they are maintained at optimal levels. This involves identifying situations and taking appropriate actions with the project teams to create a level smoothed production process.
Implementing Production Control Systems:
The PCM will be involved in implementing and maintaining production control systems such as Infralink, DWS, P6 and any other systems to streamline production processes, improve data visibility/communication, and facilitate better decision-making/collaboration within the MMC facility and job sites.
Continuous Improvement:
The PCM plays a key role in driving continuous improvement initiatives within the production control function. This may involve identifying areas for optimization, implementing process improvements, and leveraging data analytics to enhance production efficiency and responsiveness to customer needs. The main focus would be on capacity and identification of “constraints” instead in the process that inhibit flow.
Managing Production Constraints:
The PCM identifies and addresses production constraints such as equipment breakdowns, material shortages, or labor issues that may impact production schedules. They work proactively with each production leader to mitigate these constraints and minimize disruptions to the production process.
Customization and Configuration Management:
ETO products often require customization and configuration to meet customer specifications. The PCM must work closely with engineering and design teams to understand the unique requirements of each order and incorporate them into the production schedule effectively.
Flexibility and Adaptability:
Given the dynamic nature of ETO production, the PCM must be highly adaptable and responsive to changes in customer orders, design revisions, or unexpected disruptions. They need to quickly adjust production schedules and resource allocations to accommodate new requirements or address emerging issues while minimizing delays.
MMC Coordination and Communication:
Effective communication and coordination are essential in ETO production environments to ensure that all stakeholders are aligned with project requirements and timelines. The PCM serves as a central point of contact for coordinating activities between engineering, procurement, manufacturing, and other departments. Facilitating smooth production execution and timely delivery for the project teams for all SBU's. Make sure that all workflow is updated in Infralink.
Performance Monitoring and Analysis:
The PCM monitors key performance metrics such as on-time delivery, production efficiency, and resource utilization to identify opportunities for improvement and optimize production processes. This may involve analyzing production data, identifying bottlenecks or inefficiencies, and implementing corrective actions to enhance overall performance and profitability. Make sure that all misses are documented as to the top level issue.
Daily Activities:
Reviewing Production Schedule:
The day typically begins with a review of the current production schedule. The PCM assesses the status of ongoing projects, identifies any bottlenecks or issues, and determines if any adjustments need to be made to the schedule. Will work with individual production units' schedulers to understand the misses in the schedule.
Communicating with Stakeholders:
The PCM communicates with various stakeholders such as production teams, project teams, procurement specialists, and engineering personnel to gather updates, address concerns, and ensure alignment on production priorities and timelines.
Analyzing Demand Forecast:
The PCM reviews demand forecasts, customer orders, and forecast projections to understand upcoming production requirements and plan accordingly. This involves analyzing historical data, market trends, and customer preferences to anticipate demand fluctuations and adjust production schedules as needed. Leads a monthly SIOP (Sales Inventory Operations Planning) process for M C Dean MMC factory.
Updating Production Plans:
Based on the review of demand forecasts and ongoing project statuses, the PCM updates the master production schedule to reflect any changes or new priorities. This may involve reallocating resources, rescheduling tasks, or reprioritizing production orders to optimize efficiency and meet customer deadlines.
Resource Allocation and Capacity Planning:
The PCM assesses resource availability, including raw materials, equipment, and manpower, and allocates resources according to production priorities. They consider factors such as production capacity, lead times, inventory levels, and workforce availability to ensure that resources are utilized effectively and production targets are met. This information is a computation from the Production Leaders.
Managing Production Constraints:
Looks for active bottlenecks in the manufacturing process and highlights the activities as to drive improvement in a proactive approach.
Coordinating Cross-Functional Activities:
The PCM collaborates with cross-functional teams to coordinate production activities and ensure smooth execution of projects. This involves facilitating communication between departments, resolving conflicts, and providing support and guidance to ensure that everyone is working towards common production goals.
Data Analysis and Reporting:
The PCM analyzes production data, performance metrics, and key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate production efficiency, identify areas for improvement, and track progress towards production goals. They generate reports summarizing production activities, resource utilization, and performance metrics to inform decision-making and facilitate continuous improvement efforts.
Continuous Improvement Initiatives:
The PCM actively participates in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing production processes, optimizing workflows, and driving operational excellence. This may involve implementing new technologies, improving scheduling algorithms, streamlining workflows, or introducing best practices to improve overall production performance.
