Reporting to the Director of Software, the Software Engineering Manager is responsible for leading our Pantone Software Team and working in close collaboration with global software teams across Europe and the United States., and will based in our Carlstadt, NJ, USA headquarters. This role is Hybrid.

Primary Responsibilities:

Team Management

  • Lead and manage a team of 10+ professionals, including software engineers and QA engineers.

  • Oversee talent management, including performance evaluations, hiring, retention, and employee development.

  • Foster engagement through regular reviews, feedback, and team-building activities.

  • Advocate for modern development practices such as DevOps culture , continuous learning , and innovation sprints to keep the team aligned with industry trends.

Project Management

  • Develop project specifications, estimate costs and timelines, and oversee the software development lifecycle.

  • Release and provide ongoing support for cloud-native , mobile-first , and desktop applications built on scalable architectures.

  • Monitor and track application usage, costs, and quality metrics using observability tools like Datadog, Prometheus, or OpenTelemetry.

  • Manage beta testing programs and collaborate with a select group of influencers for feedback on early-access features and proof of concepts .

  • Ensure all projects adhere to security-first principles , incorporating Shift Left testing into all phases of development.

Agile Process Leadership

  • Implement and refine Agile processes, including Scrum or Scrumban methodologies, and drive Continuous Improvement (Kaizen) initiatives.

  • Lead the adoption of Lean Software Development practices and enhance productivity using tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, or GitHub Actions.

  • Promote cross-functional collaboration through Design Thinking workshops to align development goals with user needs.

Collaboration

  • Promote teamwork, cross-department collaboration, and a positive working environment.

  • Facilitate interaction between global software teams to ensure alignment and efficiency using InnerSource methodologies and modern communication tools like Slack, Miro, or Confluence.

  • Serve as a technical liaison between software, hardware, and product teams, driving holistic innovation across the company.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field with 5+ years of relevant experience.

  • 5+ years of experience in the cloud software development lifecycle , including specification, scoping, design, development, QA, deployment, and maintenance.

  • 3+ years of experience managing software engineers, including mentoring, performance evaluations, and development planning.

  • Strong understanding of Agile methodologies, such as Scrum, and familiarity with Agile at Scale frameworks like SAFe or LeSS.

  • Solid grasp of modern software concepts, including:

  • Cloud-native platforms (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, GCP, or Azure)

  • API-first development (e.g., RESTful APIs, GraphQL, or gRPC)

  • IoT and SaaS applications using event-driven architectures

  • Advanced UX and UI design systems and user-centered design (UCD) principles

  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with digital marketing funnel optimization , personalization , and A/B testing frameworks .

  • Advanced understanding of big data ecosystems (e.g., Apache Kafka, Spark) and AI/ML workflows .

  • Proficiency with modern development tools and frameworks, including:

  • Bug tracking software (e.g., Jira, Bugzilla)

  • Source control systems (e.g., Git, GitLab)

  • Unit testing frameworks (e.g., JUnit, NUnit, or PyTest)

  • CI/CD pipelines and dynamic/static analyzers (e.g., Jenkins, SonarQube, GitHub Actions)

  • Observability tools for monitoring and debugging distributed systems

  • Familiarity with color technology , including color conversion, ICC profiles, image manipulation, and appearance processes.

The below range reflects the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future. An associate’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors, including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, any collective bargaining agreements, and business or organizational needs.

The compensation range for this role is $125,000 - $135,000 USD per year. This job is also eligible for Bonus Pay.

We offer a comprehensive package of benefits including paid time off, medical/dental/vision insurance and 401(k) to eligible employees.
