**[Why does the job exist? [Position will operate medium to heavy duty equipment to maintain US and New Mexico highways for the safety of the traveling public.

**[How does it get done? [Incumbent will operate medium to heavy equipment to maintain US and New Mexico highways. Incumbent will perform a variety of skilled and semi skilled maintenance duties required in the patrol. Use of various hand tools. Knowledge and experience in snow removal and emergency operations (call outs). Removal of trash and dead animals from right of way.

• Traffic control
• Fence maintenance and guardrail repair
• Class "A" commercial driver's license will have preference.

[Minimum Qualification]{arial=""}

High School diploma or equivalent and six (6) months of experience maintaining roads and operating medium to heavy-duty equipment to include loader, five- and ten-yard dump trucks, self-propelled brooms, rollers, or mowers.

Must possess a valid driver's license and a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL), (or equivalent licenses from another state) within one (1) year of hire.
