Job Description:
Due to substantial growth in our business Harris has an immediate need for an Optical Engineer. We are seeking an advanced professional with practical knowledge of the photonics area. This key role will provide technical insight for our existing technologies and develop new technologies to capture and lead new programs with our military, government, and commercial customers.
Responsibilities:
Run the team that generates the technical solutions from conception to demonstration to field deployable hardware
Run the team that generates the technical solutions from conception to demonstration to field deployable hardware
Generate, analyze, evaluate, and flow down optical requirements
Lead internal and external design reviews as a subject matter expert (SME) in photonic systems
Lead large sized Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) with the responsibility of meeting cost and schedule milestones
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering with Optics Focus, Physics or related field and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
Ability to obtain and maintian a TS/SCI security clearance
7 or more years experience modeling and/or designing photonics systems
5 years experience leading product development teams
Experience generating technical data for business proposals
Experience providing technical leadership for prime or subcontracts
5 or more years experience developing prototype optical systems
Preferred Additional Skills:
Preferred are Master’s or PhD degrees
Active TS/SCI clearance is preferred
Fundamentals of lens and microscopy design
Understanding of the physical nature of fiber optics, physics, materials, industry standards of fabrication, etc.
Digital Lightwave Communications: Physical layer systems, components (EDFA, Modulators, SFPs, Switches, etc.) and modules for optical communication systems
Photonic Modeling: Ability to model photonic systems using one or more of the following software packages: MATLAB, , BeamProp, Zemax, HFSS
Proficient with product development for government contracts
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role is $129,500.00 -$240,500.00. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
