UNUM Senior Infrastructure Engineer , IRE - Global Enterprise Monitoring in Carlow, Ireland

Individuals in the Senior Infrastructure Engineer - Enterprise Monitoring position will be working in a fast paced and collaborative environment and are responsible for designing system and infrastructure monitoring solutions spanning UNUM’s entire eco-system, using approved system engineering practices.

They will develop and maintain the high-level design plan for the overall logical and technical monitoring architecture. They will provide technical leadership and consulting across the organization, from strategic decision making to project level planning. They will gain organizational commitment for all high-level Infrastructure plans and initiate and participate in projects to evaluate technologies and methods for implementing these plans. This role involves the mentoring of Infastructure engineers at Associate, I and/or II level.

What you need to be successful?

  • Bachelors degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or the equivalent unique education, specialized experience, skills, knowledge or training.

  • Has 6+ years of related work experience including:

  • Enterprise administration experience with many of the following APM/Monitoring/Event Management tools:

  • Dynatrace

  • AWS CloudWatch

  • Splunk Cloud

  • CRIBL

  • Nagios

  • SolarWinds

  • ServiceNow Event Management

  • Experience working with Python, PowerShell, git, and visual studio code.

  • Advanced technical knowledge of current public Cloud infrastructures (Azure, AWS, GCP) .

  • Experienced with on-premises infrastructure and applications, cloud IAAS, PAAS, and serverless technologies.

  • Hands-on experience with business requirements gathering/analysis.

  • Experienced in monitoring design, development and a strong understanding of information processing principles and practices.

  • Excellent ability to prioritize and divide time between multiple projects.

  • Demonstrates proven project planning and management experience.

  • Good knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.

  • Excellent technical architecture and technical support documentation skills.

  • Exceptional analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Superior written and oral communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and consultative skills.

  • Excellent ability to conduct research into emerging technologies and trends, standards, and products as required.

  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain custom monitoring solutions, including scripts, and plugins across the relevant infrastructure technologies.

  • Build data pipelines and data processing systems to ingest, store, and analyze log and metric data.

  • Create custom dashboards and visualization tools to display real-time performance metrics and monitoring data in a user-friendly manner.

  • Automate the deployment and configuration of monitoring agents and configurations.

  • Develop automated incident response procedures and workflows to reduce mean time to resolution.

  • Leads technical deployments that involve multiple IT teams and stakeholders.

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation.

  • Mentor junior engineers and share expertise across the team, promoting a culture of continuous learning & innovation.

  • Provides on-call support, 1 in every 4 weeks - week long rotation of 24/7 on-call support, includes weekends.
