U.S. Coast Guard Assistant Child Development Center Director in Cape May, New Jersey

Summary This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, United States Coast Guard, US Coast Guard Training Center, Child Development Center, Cape May, NJ. Responsibilities You would be responsible for the overall management of a Coast Guard child development center and function as the focal point for the child development services and family child care programs. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: - Assisting CDC personnel including childcare assistants as first line supervisor. - Initiating paperwork for hiring of subordinate positions, reviews/modifies job descriptions that fall in accordance with governing regulations. - Providing input into the planning and development of program/projects to meet educational needs of a well-established organization with accredited educational activities. -Assisting Director with preparing an annual budget and funding request for the CDC including both Non-appropriated and Appropriated funds budget. - Interviewing and recommending employment of child development center staff; evaluating, counseling, documenting actions, promoting, and making recommendations of dismissals of employees when necessary. - Supervising staff work schedule, approving requests for leave, recommending employees for awards, and resolving employee complaints. - Providing guidance in age-appropriate behavior and discipline to staff, maintaining required records on children, coordinating parent involvement, and communicating with parents through a monthly newsletter. Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship is required. This position requires a Care National Agency Check with Inquiries (CNACI). Applicant is required to meet the physical requirements of the position. Applicant must be up to date on immunizations. Selectee will be required to have annual influenza vaccination. To qualify applicants must meet the Basic Requirements of the position: Degree: that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position such as child development or early childhood education. OR Combination of education and experience--courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above. In addition to meeting the Basic Requirement - Applicants must also meet the following: To be qualified at the GS-9 level, applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level (in federal service) OR 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Some examples of specialized experience are working in a group child care or other work that demonstrated the ability to assist in the operation of a child care center; training child care employees; assisting with the development of implementation of child development programs; teaching age appropriate curriculums for children aged from 6 weeks to 5 years. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
