DESCRIPTION:

Working with Structural Steel models to create grating layouts.  Convert SDS2, Tekla, and IFC models to AutoCAD and then back to perform clash detection and proper fit.  Collaborate with Project Managers and other drafters.  This job description does not describe all activities, duties, responsibilities, or physical demands that are required of the employee for this job.  RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Effectively communicate with Project Managers and other Drafters to better understand the customers' needs and project scope.
  • Work with 3D drawings to create grating layouts for drafters to work from.
  • Convert SDS2, Tekla, or IFC files to AutoCAD files.
  • Will utilize various drafting and CAD techniques to produce drawings in 2D while working in a 3D design model environment for project requirements.
  • Assist project team with revising drawings to reflect as-built conditions.
  • Run clash detection to determine if there are any adjustments that need to be made.
  • Adhere to department policies and procedures for drafting, estimating, and engineering drawings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervision.

     QUALIFICATIONS:

  • An associate in science or bachelor of science degree in relevant drafting/design course of study is required or 3+ years of structural steel drafting experience.

  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), AutoCAD, SDS2, Tekla, and experience with database applications such as MRP/ERP systems.
  • The ideal candidate will be strategic in orientation, proactive, persistent, and able to handle multiple projects and/or customers simultaneously, be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • A strong desire to learn new products and a positive attitude towards change is also required.

     

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant course of study with several years of experience in fabrication and design is preferred.
  • Training in Structural Steel detailing required.
