Cleveland Clinic Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant or Clinical Nurse Specialist- Emergency Medicine III in Canton, Ohio

APRN: Nationally certified licensed healthcare provider who provides primary and/or specialty nursing and/or medical care in a variety of healthcare settings. Functions in collaboration with a physician according to a standard care arrangement and specialty certification.

PA: Nationally certified licensed healthcare provider who provides primary and or specialty medical care (the practice of medicine) in a variety of healthcare settings. Functions with the collaboration agreement of a Physician, (as per O.R.C. 4730). Performs complete histories and physicals on patients of all ages to establish and record patient's current health status. Develops a working diagnosis and treatment plan to provide continuing medical care, including daily examinations, writing orders, chart notes, discharging patients and completing discharge summaries. This medical care may be in a variety of clinical settings.

PA's are privileged by the Board of Governors. PA's in this role provide advanced care to patients within any setting in which patients have complex, acute, critical and chronic health conditions. Practices in any setting in which patients require complex monitoring and therapies and high intensity medical/surgical interventions and/or continuous vigilance within the range of high-acuity care.

Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital is seeking a Family Nurse Practitioner (ENP preferred) or a Physician Assistant to join the Emergency Medicine team. This provider will work in a level II trauma center, with state-of-the-art facility to best treat our patients.

Our state-of-the-art emergency department (ED) features: Large patient and family waiting area. 49 ED beds plus a five-bed triage/super-track treatment area. Radiology services and Dental and eye treatment suite in the ED. EMS first-responder room. ED cardiac cath lab.

Shifts are 12-hrs, rotating Day/Night. Additionally, straight nights is optional with pay incentive.

Ideal candidates will have APP experience, preferably in the Emergency setting with ENP Certification. New graduates with ED experience will be considered.

Responsibilities:

  • Conducts detailed medical histories, performs thorough physical examinations, initiates laboratory and/or radiographic workups, interprets aforementioned workup results, develops treatment plans, and decide upon appropriate disposition options of acute medical complaints in the emergency setting.

  • Must be able to work autonomously but under the overall supervision of a with collaborating physician.

  • Performs and interprets, at least to the point of recognizing deviations from normal, common laboratory, radiologic, cardiologic and other routine diagnostic procedures used to identify pathophysiologic processes as privileged by CCF Credentialing Board.

  • Performs routine procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care, incision and drainage, managing simple conditions produced by infection or trauma, assisting in the management of more complex illness and injury.

  • May be expected to perform special non-core privileges including lumbar puncture, central venous line placement, thoracostomy with chest tube placement, and arthrocentesis following approval by CCF Credentialing Board.

  • Provides detailed patient education regarding their disease state, including etiology, signs and symptoms, diagnosis, treatments, prognosis, follow up care.

  • Participates in medical team rounds; collaborates with nursing, medical and other healthcare team members regularly to ensure quality patient care.

  • Refers patients to specialists as appropriate for consultation or for specialized health resources and treatment.

  • Must be able to perform in a multidisciplinary team, including consultations with specialty providers.

  • Performs research follow-up studies.

  • Assists in data analysis.

  • Participates in quality monitoring through the review of records and treatment plans for patient outcomes on a periodic basis to assure quality care.

  • May serve as clinical preceptor for PA/APRN students and other health professionals.

  • May serve as Faculty for onboarding new employees.

  • Demonstrates a high standard of moral and ethical behavior.

  • Demonstrates compassion and professionalism and a commitment to excellent patient care.

  • Will be required to some weekends, holidays, and overnight shifts.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

APRN

Effective 05/01/2014: MSN required upon hire or within 3 years of hire for external hires and internal hires moving from a non-APRN licensed role to an APRN licensed role.

Graduate of an accredited APRN program.

If in neonatal care service area Master's Degree is required upon hire.

PA

Graduate of an A.R.C. approved Physician Assistant Program.

Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies and/or higher degree obtained from a program recognized by their practicing states Licensing Board.

Languages:

Oral and written communication in English

Certifications:

NP

  • Currently licensed as a Nurse Practitioner in applicable state(s).

  • Must be licensed as an RN in applicable state(s).

  • National certification as a Nurse Practitioner by nationally accredited organization recognized by state Board of Nursing.

  • DEA required.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), or and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through the American Heart Association (AHA); Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) are required.

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through the American Heart Association (AHA); or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) through the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) may be required based upon work setting.

  • Must have arrangements with at least one physician in accordance with requirements set forth by the State Board of Nursing in applicable states.

  • Must be credentialed and privileged by the Medical Executive Committee and the Governing Body of the applicable hospitals.

CNS

  • Currently licensed as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in applicable state(s).

  • Must be licensed as an RN in applicable state(s).

  • National certification as a Clinical Nurse Specialist by nationally accredited organization recognized by state Board of Nursing.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) required.

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through the American Heart Association (AHA); or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) through the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) may be required based upon work setting.

  • Must have arrangements with at least one physician in accordance with requirements set forth by the State Board of Nursing in applicable states.

  • Must be credentialed and privileged by the Medical Executive Committee and the Governing Body of the applicable hospitals

PA

  • Certification as a Physician Assistant through the NCCPA or successor organization recognized by their practicing states Licensing Board.

  • License to practice and prescribe issued by their practicing states Licensing Board.

  • Current DEA License or DEA designee as required by NCQA.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) required.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), or and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through the American Heart Association (AHA); Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) are required.

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through the American Heart Association (AHA); or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) through the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP); or Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) American Heart Association may be required based upon work setting.

  • If a candidate has held a license to prescribe within another jurisdiction and needs to obtain a master's degree in order to apply for prescribing privileges the candidate will be subject for review for eligibility for hiring within our system.

  • Must have a Physician Supervision Agreement and signed addendum to Physician Supervision Agreement.

  • Must be credentialed and privileged by the Medical Executive Committee and the Governing Body of the applicable hospitals.

Work Experience:

  • Previous experience in emergency medicine serving as an APRN/PA is strongly preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Typical physical demands include the ability to walk and stand for long periods of time.

  • Manual and finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination to perform physical examinations.

  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to a normal range.

  • Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds.

  • May require exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
