Job Description: JRC has multiple full-time Infant Assistant Teacher openings at its location at 2213 14th St. NE in Canton, OH.

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for direction and overall supervision of a group of infants (6 weeks to 18 months). Performs activities that ensure the health, safety, involvement and creativity of each individual in the group. Works cooperatively with the lead teacher to discuss and aid in the implementation of daily plans in accordance with the current curriculum, incorporating the Ohio Department of Education standards.

SPECIFIC DUTIES OF THE JOB:

  • Takes care of the infants' physical needs: diapers, feeds and changes each baby.
  • Meets the emotional needs of each baby: talks with, smiles at and loves on each child.
  • Satisfies the developmental needs of each baby: reads to, plays with and entertains infants.
  • Plans and executes special activities for babies each day:
    • Special Activity Concentration: Large Group Motor Skills - rolling over, crawling, walking, sitting-up.
    • Language Skills - forming words, recognizing pictures and sounds.
    • Sensory Skills - touching textures, exploring materials.
  • Prepares room before children arrive and cleans rooms at end of shift.
  • Greets each parent and baby daily.
  • Gives undivided attention, watching carefully for safety hazards.
  • Collects required anecdotes and information for required ongoing assessments.
  • Required to drive JRC bus (CDL not required) - transporting children or adult/senior members.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

High school diploma or equivalent is required. An infant/toddler CDA credential or associate degree or higher in Early Childhood Education and Development is preferred. Must attend training classes designed to broaden professionalism, education and skill involving childcare and development as required by federal and state regulations and administration.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Experience working with small infants and knowledge of activities that stimulate infants.
  • Knowledge of infant illness and care, and safety issues concerning infants.
  • Interactions expressive of genuine warmth and concern for children as well as an understanding of their developmental needs and age-appropriate behavior.
  • Captures "nurturing moments" and "teachable moments."
  • Ability to move and react quickly. Handles emergencies effectively.
  • Skills in patience and remaining calm under pressure.
  • Skills in positive communication.
  • Skills in parent communication.
  • Skills in time management and ability to be flexible with infants' routines and schedules.
  • Ability to organize the environment.
  • Ability to research needs of infants and attend classes for professional development.
  • Acquire knowledge of the current curriculum and implement the curriculum practices in the classroom.
