Description
REPORTS TO:Home Service Director
RATE OF PAY:$21.50/hour; biweekly pay structure
WORK SCHEDULE: Per diem (up to 30 scheduled hours per week). Primarily weekdays with occasional, pre-planned evening or weekend activities.
POSITION SUMMARY:This position shall be responsible for developing and implementing individualized exercise routines for people with developmental disabilities in the Family Support Personal Training Program and promoting and teaching the benefits of regular exercise.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop individualized exercise routines based on the needs of the person receiving services.
Meet with individuals in their homes and at locations within the community to help customize exercise programs to best meet the needs of the person.
Motivate and encourage individuals during exercise sessions to help them achieve their goals.
Teach individuals the health benefits of regular exercise and the importance of performing exercise safely. Demonstrate exercises or maneuvers as appropriate.
Monitor fitness progress and adjust exercise routines as needed.
Collaborate regularly with supervisor to ensure the needs of people receiving services are being met and regularly discuss ideas and/or improvements to enhance the program.
Perform other duties as requested or directed by the supervisor.
Requirements
A high school diploma or equivalentandcertification as a personal trainer from a nationally accredited organization (i.e., American Council on Exercise, American College of Sports Medicine, National Academy of Sports Medicine) isrequired.
CPR/BLS certification is required, and training can be provided upon hire.
Criminal background check.
NYS Driver’s License with two years of driving experiencerequired.
Acceptable motor vehicle abstract to meet Agency insurability standards.
Reliable personal vehicle for business use.
Availability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with participants.
Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs, and ability to support individuals with and without help.
Ability to perform exercises and movements as demonstrations for individuals.
Ability to operate personal and Agency vehicles.
Ability to walk and stand for extended periods.
Able to tolerate atmospheric conditions when performing regular outdoor seasonal activities/exercises.
Ability to operate mechanical devices used by individuals.
