We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Consulting Project Manager Public Sector to join our team at Microsoft. In this role, you will be responsible for driving and maintaining obligations to customers across the delivery lifecycle, including envisioning, solution development, delivery planning, cloud consumption, and usage. You will lead steering committee meetings with strategic customers, manage project delivery forecasts, and support contract setup and execution. Additionally, you will collaborate with sales, manage fiscal responsibilities, and ensure service delivery is on track.

This a client facing role and requires minimum 50% working on client site.

Responsibilities

Project Delivery Management

  • Drive and maintain customer obligations throughout the delivery lifecycle, including envisioning, solution development, delivery planning, cloud consumption, and usage.

  • Lead or participate in steering committee meetings with strategic customers to discuss delivery progress.

  • Identify blockers to consumption goals and enable customers to get the full value of their purchases.

  • Collaborate with Sales to support contract setup, signature, compliance, and execution.

  • Manage fiscal responsibilities within the project portfolio, ensuring budget adherence and engagement profitability.

  • Support relationships with key stakeholders to ensure service delivery is on track and issues are managed proactively.

Intellectual Property (IP)

  • Research and share intellectual property (IP) proactively, providing recommendations for improvement and submitting new IP.

  • Hold team members accountable for reusing appropriate IP and collective knowledge by enforcing the use of processes and artifacts.

Relationship Development

  • Engage with customer stakeholders to develop partnerships, leveraging broad technical expertise.

  • Manage escalations or ensure resolution of escalations with customer stakeholders through tailored corrective action and overcome ambiguous situations as needed.

  • Leverage project sponsors and internal network to influence stakeholders and resolve situations.

  • Drive customer satisfaction by engaging with customer stakeholders positively, reviewing and analysing customer feedback, and leveraging trusted relationships with key internal resources to act as the voice of the customer.

  • Manage expectations with political sensitivity by leading Success Expectation discussions with customers and documenting, executing, and monitoring through customer and partner experience (CPE).

  • Adhere to project compliance standards and requirements of the contract, accommodating customer compliance standards, including managing compliance-related complexities.

  • Champion compliance by contributing to knowledge sharing across teams to build compliance capability of others.

Initiation

  • Drive project initiation for medium complexity projects by delivering a workstream within a larger project/program, assigning resources, and creating work breakdown structures (WBSs) with the delivery team.

  • Balance needs across projects in challenging situations and collaborate with other groups on integrated planning and organization of onshore/offshore projects.

Contracting

  • Facilitate the contracting process for customer and partner resources by briefing partners, coordinating partner candidate interviews, and identifying and acclimating partner resources to the team.

  • Support negotiation and structuring of fixed-fee subcontractor contracts and monitor processes such as Amendments, Delivery Acceptance, Proof of Delivery, and Invoicing.

Presales

  • Contribute to pre-sales for medium-impact projects by articulating the business value proposition and considering associated complexities and risks.

  • Participate in the review of proposed scope and assist in developing Statement of Work (SOW), Work Breakdown Structures (WBSs), estimates, and preliminary risk assessments.

Planning

  • Develop detailed project management plans for medium complexity projects, aligning with customer plans and ensuring predictable delivery.

  • Establish clear expectations and accountabilities with project team members and stakeholders through internal and external kick-off meetings.

  • Engage a broad set of internal and external stakeholders, including those impacted by project scope/outcome, and involve subject matter experts in planning activities.

Monitoring and Controlling

  • Orchestrate and oversee a broad range of project metrics on midsize to large projects with high visibility.

  • Proactively manage risks and issues within projects, leveraging technical knowledge and previous experience to evaluate risks and create risk management plans.

  • Ensure timely completion and quality of deliverables by applying quality management techniques and using analyses to identify solutions to systemic issues.

  • Manage finances for projects with mid-size to large scopes and budgets by balancing funding and resources across workstreams.

  • Manage stakeholder communications on project health, issues, and financial performance throughout the entire project lifecycle.

Closure

  • Drive timely project closure by ensuring completion of project sign-off tasks and reflecting on and sharing lessons learned across teams.

  • Apply advanced knowledge across project management principle areas to execution and delivery, serve as a mentor to less experienced colleagues, and participate in cross-border mentoring and peer alignment.

Business Growth

  • Demonstrate accountability for the financial health of a project or program, identify opportunities to accelerate and drive consumption and delivery, and own and drive backlog risk management.

  • Look for or create opportunities to maximize timely cloud consumption through current deliveries and identify new opportunities with customers.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field AND 3+ years' experience in project management

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Public Sector Experience.

  • Azure Fundamentals AZ900 Certification

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

Strong business acumen, stakeholder management experience, and knowledge of Microsoft tech stack are also required.

This position requires verification of Australian citizenship due to citizenship-based legal restrictions. Specifically, this position supports Australian government agency customers and is subject to certain citizenship-based restrictions where required or permitted by applicable law. Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field AND 8+ years' experience in project management

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Experience with Azure cloud computing

  • Azure level 300 – 400 Certification.

  • 4+ years financial management experience.

  • Agile certification, Scrum Master, Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP), or Professional Scrum Master One (PSM1) certification.
