Naval Medical Command SUPERVISORY INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST in Camp Pendleton, California

Summary You will serve as a SUPERVISORY INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST in the Industrial Hygiene Division of NMRTC CAMP PENDLETON CA. This announcement uses the Expansion of Direct Hire Authority for Certain Personnel to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service. Responsibilities You will carry out supervisory functions, i.e. plan work assignments based on priorities; identify employee training needs; give advice, counsel, or instruction to employees; recommend disciplinary action in serious cases. You will monitor and control operating costs. You will certify timecards and approve or deny lease requests. You will perform technical review of reports, assist industrial hygienist, safety and occupational health professionals, commanding officers, labor organizations, and outside federal agencies with Industrial hygiene matters. You will ensure and uphold industrial hygiene program standards, quality control, customer service, and legal reporting requirements as directed. You will in the absence of the division head, assume full administrative duties, program management, and by-direction authority. You will establish and/or maintain procedures for the training and development of industrial hygiene division staff in accordance with BUMED and industry professional standards. Evaluation of Education - All science or engineering courses offered in fulfillment of the above requirements must be acceptable for credit toward the completion of a standard 4-year professional curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in science or engineering at an accredited college or university. For engineering degrees to be acceptable, the curriculum must be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) as a professional engineering curriculum. In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: professional Industrial Hygienist experience functioning in a supervisory or leadership role: Supervises individuals in the Industrial Hygiene Division with accomplishing the BUMED industrial hygiene and the command missions. Professional Industrial Hygienist experience in a Supervisory or Leadership role utilizing industrial hygiene concepts, principles, and practices to serve as a technical authority. Provides expert advice and direction for a broad range of industrial hygiene matters, including the conduct of the most difficult types of industrial hygiene evaluations. Applies new techniques, technical advances and experienced judgment in solving novel or obscure problems which are not readily treatable by conventional methods. Applying regulations, laws, agency directives, and acceptable exposures and control procedures required to interpret legal requirements and serve as an expert witness in court cases. Ability to train industrial hygienists, occupational safety and health personnel, management, supervisors, and employees.
