Responsibilities

Schedule:

Emergency Room coverage services are required 24 hours a day, 7 days a week including Federal Holidays.

Shift duration will be 8.5, 10.5, or 12.5 hours inclusive of a 30-minute uncompensated meal break

Job Specific Responsibilities and Tasks: Duties may include but are not limited to :

Core Duties :

• Coordinate patient care in collaboration with a wide array of healthcare professionals. Facilitate the achievement of optimal outcomes in relation to clinical care, quality and cost effectiveness.

• Ensure compliance with standards of care and practice in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the MTF.

• Perform physical exam and health histories.

• Provide health promotions, counseling, and education.

• Administer medications, wound care, and numerous other personalized interventions.

• Direct care provided by other healthcare professionals.

• Accountable for making patient care assignments based on the scope of practice and skill level of assigned personnel.

• Recognize adverse signs and symptoms and quickly react in emergency situations.

• Communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people for the purpose of informing the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family and organization.

• Make referral appointments and arrange specialty care as appropriate.

• Perform nursing services identified in the TO.

• Conduct research in support of improved practice and patient outcomes

Additional Duties .

  • Assess each patient and perform triage duties as assigned.

  • Formulate and carry out a goal directed plan of care which based on determined nursing diagnosis and patient outcomes and which is prioritized according to patient needs and available resources including time, personnel, equipment, and supplies.

  • Evaluate effectiveness of self-care given by all health team members, and contribution of systems, environment, and instrumentation in progressing patient toward outcomes.

  • Provide treatment and discharge instructions upon patient release.

  • Perform assessment/data collection in an ongoing and systematic manner, focusing on physiological, psychological, and cognitive status.

  • Provide a safe and clean environment for each patient.

  • Identify patient/significant other learning needs and implement appropriate measures to meet identified needs.

  • Assist in planning, provide clinical direction, and provide instruction to LPNs/LVNs, nursing assistants and ancillary personnel.

  • Communicate with patients utilizing Secure Messaging to improve communication and facilitate care through non-traditional means

  • The HCWs shall complete annual training requirements including but not limited to the Command Respirator Fitness Testing Program.

  • Complete unit and required command competencies including but not limited to: Intravenous (IV) access/IV therapy, Medication Administration, environment of care, unit specific ER nursing and equipment competencies following NHCP Policies and protocols during shadow orientation shifts. Must be completed prior to working independently.

  • Complete all Unit Specific Emergency Department and required command competencies including but not limited to Restraints, Massive Transfusion Protocol, administration of blood products, triage and IV Conscious Sedation following NHCP Policies and protocols within 90 days of assignment at NHCP.

  • Receive phone calls and/or patients presenting in the Emergency Room Department and triage patients to appropriate level of care within the military treatment facility.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications :

• Degree: Associates degree in nursing.

• Education: Graduation from an accredited registered nurse program.

• Experience: One year of full-time experience within the last three years as a Registered Nurse in a Level III or higher Emergency Department.

• Licensure: Current, full, active and unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse

* Security : Must possess ability to pass a Government background check/security clearance.

* Life Support Certification: Possess a current AHA OR ARC BLS Healthcare Provider certification.

Pay Scale: $50.00 - $75.00 per hour, to be determined based on qualifications, experience, and location
