Maintenance Technician II

R eporting Relationships:

Reports to: Maintenance Manager

Scope of Responsibility:

The Maintenance Technician II is responsible for the effective operation and major and minor reactive repairs of the liquid making, base plant, filling lines and/or utility equipment. All technicians must work together to achieve factory business objectives of safety, productivity, customer service, quality, cost and environmental protection.

The primary accountabilities of the role include applying basic hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical troubleshooting skills to ensure equipment reliability and uptime, safety compliance, equipment maintenance procedures, data collection, housekeeping, problem solving and continuous improvement as part of a work team.

The Maintenance Technician works within a structure that requires considerable interaction with others in the same production unit as well as other production units and support functions.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot unplanned equipment breakdowns and repair of automated and non-automated making, finishing facilities and utility equipment through computer terminals, control panels, and/or by manual means in the manufacturing of Colgate-Palmolive. Also, report major issues or changes made to the area maintenance Planner or maintenance System personnel.

  • Understands the storeroom parts storage system and can easily search and find parts as needed. Also, must follow the correct procedure for removing parts from the storeroom.

  • Undertakes daily reporting and updates of information systems (e.g. SAP,) including documentation of maintenance activities performed on equipment.

  • Identify and report potential maintenance issues that need to be addressed.

  • Fabricates simple machine parts using the required shop equipment such as lathe, drill press, milling machine and others.

  • Accurately and fully completes with all regulatory and compliance-related documentation and procedures; highlights variances.

  • Stays abreast of teams’ production performance via visual, written and verbal communications.

  • Participates in regular review of team production performance and uses information to drive continuous improvement. Provides status of maintenance activity for the area; recommends machine modifications, and proactively look preventive maintenance solutions

  • Seeks and applies Continuous Improvement tools and techniques to achieve team goals, e.g., Quality Systems, FP&R, Problem-Solving tools.

  • Understands and adheres to all EHOS, Quality, GMP and Micro (C&S Guidelines) standards and guidelines.

  • Understands the needs of both internal and external customers. Internal customers include Safety, Operations, Quality, Planning, Maintenance, and Finance. External customers are other CP plants, customer service and, for example, Target, Wal-Mart etc.

  • Maintains work area to required housekeeping standards. Performs housekeeping activities as per established protocol and conducts/participates in area housekeeping assessments per requirement.

  • Shares knowledge and develops maintenance skills with operators. Identifies new opportunities for transferring skills to operators. Actively participate in continuous learning opportunities.

Education:

HIgh School/Vocational school or technical institute required.

Internal applicants must be a Level III Operator or above to apply and pass the Electrical and Mechanical Maintenance Series SMT assessment to be considered.

Experience:

3+ years manufacturing or similar experience is preferred, with an emphasis in mechanics or electronics.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range $ - $ USD

Pay is determined based on experience, qualifications, and location. Salaried employees may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, profit-sharing, and long-term incentives for Executive-level roles.
