City of Cambridge, MD Sewer Maintenance Worker I in Cambridge, Maryland

Pay Grade: 06 Salary: $40,000 - $47,500 Non-Exempt City of Cambridge, Maryland CLASS SPECIFICATION SEWER MAINTENANCE WORKER I DEFINITION OF CLASS: This is unskilled manual labor involving a variety of indoor/outdoor maintenance tasks on municipal owned buildings, grounds, parking lots, and streets. The employee receives assignments orally orin writing and work is performed under the direction and supervision of the Sewer Maintenance Foreman or higher-level supervisor. Work involves the use of manual tools and small power tools and equipment. This is a "Classified, Safety-Sensitive" position. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (Includes, but is not limited to): ? Inspect and clean sewers, drains, and catch basins using hand tools and power equipment to ensure unobstructed flow. ? Operate closed-circuit television (CCTV) equipment to conduct detailed inspections of sewer lines and identify blockages or damages. ? Repair and maintain sewer lines, including patching damaged sections, replacing pipes, and sealing joints to prevent leaks and ensure system integrity. ? Respond to emergency calls for sewer backups and overflows, quickly identifying the cause and implementing solutions to restore service and prevent public health hazards. ? Use specialized equipment, such as hydro-jet machines, to remove blockages and build-up from sewer lines, ensuring efficient wastewater transportation. ? Participate in the installation of new sewerlines and connections, including digging trenches, laying pipes, ensuring proper alignment and connection to existing infrastructure. ? Conduct chemical treatments of sewers to control rodent and insect infestations, ensuring a safe and sanitary sewer environment. ? Perform confined space entry operations following strict safety protocols to repair, maintain, or inspect sewer systems in enclosed or difficult-to-access areas. ? Cuts grass and weeds on municipal grounds. ? Cleans municipal parking lots of litter. ? Cleans municipal buildings. ? Repairs and replaces street signs and poles and parking meter poles. ? Paints curbing, street markings, benches and trash receptacles. ? Waters and fertilizes grass and shrubs and sprays insecticides and weed killers. ? Replaces streetlight and traffic light bulbs and makes non-technical repairs on parking meters, traffic signals, water lines and fountains. ? Uses common hand tools and small power-operated tools and equipment. ? Performs other related duties as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION: ? Ability to read and write and some mechanical aptitude. ? Some knowledge of common hand tools and small power-operated tools and equipment. ? Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions. ? Good physical condition and ability to perform moderate to heavy manual labor for prolonged periods of time, often under adverse weather conditions. ? Ability to work cooperatively and harmoniously with others. LICENSE: Possession of a Valid Maryland Class "C" drivers license. License is to be in good standing and acceptable by the City of Cambridge and its insurance carrier. Class B drivers License preferred PHYSICAL ABILITIES: ? Requires the ability to function both indoors and in an office environment (approx. 50%) and outdoors (approx. 50%) often under adverse weather conditions, climb standard ladders (250-pound weight limit), negotiate obstacles, navigate crawl and concealed spaces, tolerate dust and mold, lift up to sixty (60) pounds. ? Requires cardiovascular fitness to walk 400 yards over varying terrain. ? Requires sufficient ambulatory ability to move about the office and outdoor field locations and to bend, stoop, reach, and climb. ? Requires near and far visual acuity to read detailed maps, drawings, other printed material, computer screens, observe moving objects, and observe physical layouts. ? Requires manual and finger dexterity to write and to operate microcomputers and other office equipment. ? Requires he ability to alternatively sit and stand for sustained periods of time to observe construction and perform counter work.
