About the role:

As a key member of the U.S. and Global Corporate Communications team, the Media Relations and Operations Head will help us take our media relations to the next level, facilitating the creation of a media relations center of excellence and overseeing relationships with U.S. and global top tier media. This role will support the U.S. and Global Corporate Communications priorities and will closely collaborate with the U.S. Business Unit, U.S. Region and cross-functional global communications colleagues, as well as varying levels of key internal stakeholders. Reporting to the Head, U.S. and Global Corporate Communications, this team member will be responsible for our reporting, planning and budgets, helping to ensure the team runs smoothly.

How you will contribute:

Media Relations

  • Help build and manage a corporate media relations center of excellence coordinating with global colleagues and partnering with the Reputation, Media Relations and Issues and Crisis management colleagues to anticipate potential media issues and triage with relevant stakeholders to address issues both reactively and proactively, as appropriate.

  • In partnership with the Media Relations Lead, provide oversight of U.S. and non-financial corporate press release strategy and media relations activities partnering with cross-functional colleagues on other key materials for distribution around major milestone announcements.

  • Oversee U.S. and top-tier global media relations as well as global media monitoring, in partnership with the Media Relations Lead.

Operations

  • Partners with communicators across the U.S. and other key stakeholders to develop a comprehensive U.S. and Global Corporate Communications plan; this role will also be responsible for ensuring colleagues execute on key program objectives as aligned with annual plans.

  • Responsible for coordinating with colleagues on annual, quarterly and monthly reporting.

  • Responsible for driving U.S. and Global Corporate Communications team meetings, coordinating U.S. communications community management and representing U.S. and Global Corporate Communications team on Disclosure Committee.

  • Lead after action reviews of high impact projects; provide recommendations for simplification of processes and systems.

  • Oversee U.S. and Global Communications agency SOWs and budget management.

  • Coordinate with Global Communications Office to ensure SOPs and guidelines are updated regularly and trainings are conducted annually.

  • Partner with Head, U.S. and Global Corporate Communications to create lifelong learning opportunities for team, supporting team growth and strengthening business acumen.

  • Manage oversight of external trends, best-in-class business practices and benchmarking to keep leadership and colleagues informed on external environment factors to enhance and protect Takeda’s corporate reputation.

  • Help drive implementation of new technologies, tools and AI to enhance Takeda’s communications strategies, including Smartsheet.

  • Ad hoc support for Head, U.S. and Global Corporate Communications.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, marketing or a related field.

  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in communications, with a strong track record of leadership and developing and executing strategic corporate communications plans.

  • Strategic and creative thinking, with the ability to anticipate and address opportunities and challenges in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

  • Data-driven approach to problem solving, strategy development and decision making.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop and evaluate strategic options and make sound decisions.

  • Strong planner with keen attention to detail.

  • Budget management experience.

  • Exceptional written and oral communications skills.

  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build trust and influence across all levels of the organization and with external partners.

  • Role models the use of new technologies, champions their adoption with colleagues and motivates for change.

  • Collaborative and inclusive leadership style, with the ability to inspire, motivate and develop a diverse and global team.

This role is hybrid, with the expectation that they will be in the office in Cambridge, Massachusetts, at least two days per week.

U.S. Base Salary Range:

$149,100.00 - $234,300.00

The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.

U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/ or long-term incentives. U.S. based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others. U.S. based employees are also eligible to receive, per calendar year, up to 80 hours of sick time, and new hires are eligible to accrue up to 120 hours of paid vacation.
