Description
Job Summary: Provides administrative and customer service support to Engineering. Position reports to the Supervisor, Field Services & Permitting.
Essential Functions:
Works with LUGM and the Health Department and processes change in use and Connection Permit requests from the county, and maintains permit records and files;
Generates inspection requests for site assessment, final inspection, and miscellaneous inspections;
Generates permit and TEC invoices and processes validation reports to the Billing Department for Engineering fees collected by the county;
Issues water meters to permit applicants, and maintains Engineering water meter inventory;
Prepares new customer account information and EDU adjustment letters for Billing Department;
Researches plats, deeds, assessment, and other records for the Engineering Department, and provides research support to other departments when necessary;
Provides administrative support for Engineering Department including answering calls, preparing correspondence and reports, purchase requisitions, filing and scanning, and distributing mail for construction, inspections, and field services;
Processing alternate sewer house connection and GP location requests;
Maintains field report records for inspectors;
Assists with Davis-Bacon Procedures for capital projects;
Assists with files for a multi-office filing system that includes contracts, projects, subdivisions, and project drawings;

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (These are pre-employment KSA that apply only to Essential Job Functions.):
Ability to gain working knowledge of St. Mary’s County Metropolitan Commission policies and procedures
Ability to act as a representative of St. Mary’s County Metropolitan Commission to the public
Knowledge of the relevant practices and procedures of the Engineering and Operations Departments
Ability to effectively communicate with other staff members
Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records
Ability to operate relevant computer systems, including hardware and software, and office machines.
Required Qualifications (Note: Any acceptable combination of education, training and relevant experience that provides the above knowledge, abilities and skills may be substituted on a full-time year for year basis.):
Training and/or Education:
Associate’s degree or High School Diploma or equivalent and two or more years of job-related experience
Experience:
Or equivalent technical training, education, and/or experience

Physical Demands:
Work requires occasional strenuous effort. For example, handling of heavy tools, equipment, or materials or 30 to 60 pounds or more. Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting or training rooms, residences, or commercial vehicles e.g., use of safe work place practices with office equipment, and/or avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire regulations and traffic signals.
