Aerotek Forklift Operator in Calgary, Alberta

Job Title: Forklift Operator

Job Description

The candidate will start as a Shipper/Receiver and Order Picker for the new facility. They will be required to operate sitdown counterbalance forklifts in narrow aisles and load/unload trailers. The role involves heavy lifting up to 50 lbs as products will be boxes full of produce. Strong attention to detail is essential. The candidate must be skilled in sitdown counterbalance operation and comfortable working with tall pallets for safe operation. They will primarily work in the banana rooms using high-reach forks to handle pallets. Responsibilities also include loading/unloading trailers for internal transfer between buildings, using RF scanners, verifying orders, and ensuring shipment accuracy. The role involves 60% forklift operation and 40% manual tasks such as unloading, picking products, checking paperwork, and palletizing.

Responsibilities

  • Unload product from incoming trucks

  • Identify improper inventory counts and damages

  • Label the product correctly before storing it in designated areas

  • Use RF scanners

  • Load orders accurately and safely in trucks as per shipment confirmation

  • Manually unload, pick products, and check paperwork for orders

  • Verify shipment orders for accuracy

  • Break pallets, palletize, wrap/unwrap pallets

Essential Skills

  • 2 years of recent experience on a sitdown counterbalance forklift

  • Experience working in narrow spaces such as trailers and narrow aisles

  • Comfortable lifting up to 50 lbs

  • Strong communication skills to handle paperwork

  • Experience using RF scanners

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • 1 year experience on a reach forklift

  • 1 year of work experience in a food distribution company (nice to have)

  • Experience on stand-up forklifts (nice to have)

Work Environment

The candidate will work in a cooler environment with temperatures ranging from 5 to 10 degrees Celsius. Proper PPE must be worn, and food safety regulations must be followed. The company culture promotes a positive work environment with an 'open door' policy. Limited employees get Saturdays and Sundays off, and some overtime is expected. Each shift consists of about 30 people. The morning shift is from 5 am to 1:30 pm, and availability on weekends is required. The dress code includes steel toe boots that cover the ankles and comfortable clothing as it is a relaxed atmosphere.
