Waste Connections Accounts Payable Specialist in Calgary, Alberta

R360 Canada, an affiliate of Waste Connections, offers a variety of services to clients in the energy, environmental and industrial sectors. These services are delivered via our network of facilities, along with our specialized equipment and assets. We are equipped to process, recover, recycle and dispose of waste and other materials safely and cost-effectively for our customers.

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Assistant Controller, the successful applicant will be responsible for the full cycle of Accounts Payable, resolving Accounts Payable issues, completing special projects, and general support to the Finance Team. This role is a temporary 12-month term.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Process, route, and post invoices in accordance with vendor payment terms andcontracts.

  • Ensure accurate coding and approval of allAccounts Payableinvoices

  • Prepare and process AP journalentries

  • Ensure Vendor issues are investigated andresolved

  • Provide support and assistance in an efficient and timely manner to internalstakeholders

  • Perform vendor account reconciliations and ensure statements arecurrent

  • Maintain effective and timely communication with all internal/externalstakeholders

  • Resolve stale dated cheques while promotingEFT

  • Assist in managing Corporate credit card coding and reconciliation

  • Month end and general support to FinanceTeam

  • Assist with APprojects

Qualifications/Competencies

The individual in this role will have:

  • At least 2 years’ experience in a similarrole

  • Certificate or diploma inaccountingwould be anasset

  • Previous basicaccountingexperience, which includes, experience with journal entries,accounts payableand/oraccounts receivable

  • Strong understanding of debits andcredits

  • Intermediate to advancedExcelskill

  • Previousaccountinginvoice software system experience (Open Invoice, D365)

  • Strong ability for attention to detail, analysis, and further outstanding problemsolving

  • Ability to adapt to change and beingflexible

  • A confident self-starter, who can manage their time effectively and workindependently

  • A natural leader who takes initiative to go above andbeyond

  • Excellent organizational skills with an ability to prioritize projects and multi-task in a fast-pacedenvironment

  • Strong customer service focus, professional and effective communicator both verbally and inwriting

  • Strong team player and strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to deal effectively with individuals at all organization levels

  • Flexible andadaptable, willing to take on more responsibilities as needed, and devote time necessary to complete deadlines.

  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work under tightdeadlines

  • Ability to reliably handle confidentialinformation
