Director of Residence Life

Montana Technological University seeks an innovative and collaborative individual to serve as the next Director of Residence Life. The Director will provide oversight for all staff, operations, and strategic planning within the department of Housing and Residence Life, and will cultivate a team and environment that will foster students’ success and sense of belonging.

DUTIES

Duties:

  • Provide oversight and direction for the day to day operations of a housing program consisting of approximately 600 beds within three residence halls and an apartment facility.

  • Provide leadership for all recruitment, selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of professional, classified, and student staff.

  • Directly supervise the Residence Life Coordinator and Administrative Associate, and assist with developing and implementing materials and procedures to support all student staff positions within the department.

  • Serve as a member of the Student Affairs Leadership Team and participate in strategic planning for the division and institution.

  • Advise and inspire the Residence Hall Association (RHA) and provide assistance in their efforts of program development and enhancing students’ residential experience.

  • Participate in the administrative on-call schedule with the Dean of Students and other Student Affairs professional staff and respond to student/campus emergencies as appropriate.

  • Serve as a student conduct officer for residential cases while emphasizing restorative justice and an educational approach.

  • Emphasize a department that centers the Montana Tech values and brand, demonstrates positive customer service, and strives for continuous improvement.

  • Manage and oversee all department budgets.

  • Review and respond to requests for on-campus housing exemptions / accommodations.

  • In conjunction with the Administrative Assistant and Residence Life Coordinator, ensure that summer operations, including student housing, staffing, and camps/conferences accommodations, are effectively managed.

  • Develop vision and infrastructure for a residential curriculum that will create intentional learning and development opportunities for students outside the classroom.

  • Maintain and interpret occupancy data tracking and prioritize the maximization of campus housing for students.

  • In conjunction with the Administrative Assistant and Residence Life Coordinator, provide vision for front desk operations in each residential building.

  • Serve as a member of the Oredigger Intervention team to support students experiencing challenges to their academic success and/or health and wellness.

  • Collect data and prepare reports to measure outcomes and develop recommendations to enhance department effectiveness.

  • Collaborate with the Dean of Students Office, Campus Safety, Title IX, and community resources/partners to reinforce a culture of safety and accountability for students and all community members.

  • Collaborate with campus partners outside of Student Affairs to support student enrollment, retention, and satisfaction, including but not limited to Admissions, Financial Aid, Business Services, Facilities/Maintenance, Dining Services, and Athletics.

  • Assist with student affairs and campus-wide programs and initiatives as needed, including but not limited to, new student orientation, campus traditions, admissions events, and University committees.

    Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

  • Two years of professional experience in a housing and/or residence life department at a college or university.

  • Demonstrated experience and ability to mentor, supervise, and lead a team.

  • Exemplary written and verbal communication skills.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in student affairs/higher education or related field.

  • Demonstrated ability to creatively plan, organize, and execute events.

  • Experience working with Maxient, Banner (Ellucian) Student Information System, and Microsoft Office systems.

  • Experience implementing or facilitating a residential curriculum model.

  • Ability to demonstrate genuine empathy and care for students, their challenges, and their success.
