    We are seeking a highly driven self-motivated Aggregate Transportation Manager to oversee the daily operations of the Inter-Company Hauling (ICH), Bulk Hauling, and Aggregate Transportation and Dispatch departments As the Aggregate Transportation Manager, you'll be responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing the fulfillment of truck and rail product shipments by effectively communicating with customers and managing a team of 8-10 direct reports.

    Typical work schedule is varied hours Monday-Friday (some Saturday work as needed). The Manager will travel regularly between Sunrock locations and minimal overnight travel (up to 10%) may be required.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Sunrock Hauling

  • Monitors the aggregate dispatch activity to ensure maximum efficiency relating to scheduling and operating demands

  • Works to efficiently procure bulk cement and fly ash

  • Presents direction and operational objectives to senior management

  • Sets and proactively works to meet goals and objectives set by senior management optimizing the use of personnel and equipment

  • Consults plant production staff to set delivery schedules based on truck capacities, delivery distance, production schedules, and unloading time

  • Develops and administers planning tools to assist in determining mid and long-range inter-company haul (“ICH”) schedules (i.e. nights and weekends) and truck counts

  • Trouble-shoots aggregate delivery related problems and resolves issues with the appropriate parties

  • Prepares and maintains reports for driver efficiency, customer efficiency, truck efficiency, and other time analysis reporting functions. Oversees the 3rd party hauling operations

  • Enforce the Department of Transportation and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration safety policies along with Carolina Sunrock policies and procedures to ensure all team members comply

  • Participates in order entry and aggregate dispatch functions of the company on an as needed basis

  • Rail Operations

  • Responsible for the short-term and medium-term planning for rail transportation of product including: dispatching all rail shipments, monitoring rail yard, monitoring multiple pools of rail cars including railroad equipment and private cars, effectively maximizing equipment while meeting customers’ needs and streamlining the internal order fulfillment process

  • Manages multiple pools of rail cars and maximizes equipment efficiency

  • Communicates with rail delivered and customers regarding upcoming shipments

  • Monitors customers’ inventory and communicates changes to sales and operations

  • Acts as main liaison with Class I railroads, resolving issues and inquiries

  • Coordinates with operations for efficient loading of railcars with multiple products and destinations

  • Creates and forwards Bills of Lading (BOL) within Class I railroad system

  • Arranges emergency trucking to meet customer needs during delays or increased demand

  • Completes daily rail traffic reports and identifies opportunities for efficiency improvements

  • Manages multiple projects and customer requirements with varying complexity

  • Ensures all quality control functions are completed before dispatching railcars.

  • Managerial

  • Supervises workforce recruitment, training, and development, fostering a positive work culture and team growth

  • Upholds and promotes company ideals, vision, and brand image both internally and externally cultivating a culture of professionalism and communication

  • Provide effective leadership by example, sharing of knowledge, and conduct performance management for professional development and performance appraisals

  • Develops, maintains, and distributes duties/responsibilities of current and future positions within the department

  • Manages, investigates, and report accidents, injuries, and property damages

  • Identifies and implements continuous improvement initiatives

  • Maintains proficiency in operational requirements, software, hardware, and production practices, establishing efficient production protocols.

  • Ensures compliance with records retention and destruction regulations, providing support as needed for employees following the Records Management Program Manual.

  • Financial

  • Conducts analysis and implements strategies to control costs effectively

  • Prepares the annual transportation budget

  • Oversees adherence to the financial plan by production staff in the transportation department

  • Ensures the transportation department meets accounting department expectations for reporting, including product tickets, cash sales, and equipment usage

  • Maintenance

  • Establishes and enforces fleet maintenance schedules and protocols to ensure compliance

  • Conducts inspections to identify issues on fleet, communicates them to management, and coordinates maintenance efforts

  • Preventive maintenance to minimize unplanned emergencies and reduce downtime

  • Budgets, schedules, and oversees routine fleet maintenance, communicating any planned downtime to the aggregate dispatch and sales department

  • Environmental Compliance

  • Ensures environmental compliance in physical activities and record keeping

  • Responds immediately to any incident with potential environmental impact

  • Makes recommendations to enhance environmental responsibility

    Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to multitask in a fast pace, high volume environment.

  • Ability to follow through with strong self-starter and organization skills.

  • Ability and willingness to deal with conflict, deadlines, and change.

  • Ability to operate within a logistics matrix planning days and weeks in advance while executing daily tasks.

  • Excellent written and oral communications and interpersonal skills required.

  • Ability to read, analyze, write and interpret professional journals, financial reports, business correspondence, and manuals.

  • Ability to skillfully deliver information and address inquiries, schedule changes, and problem resolution to and from managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret graphs.

  • Proficient in Microsoft applications.

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions and recommendations.

    Education and/or Experience:

  • A minimum of 3-5 years of directly applicable industry experience including demonstrated management and leadership skills.

  • Formal education (a degree and/ or training) in construction management, logistics, etc. is a bonus.

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • A current North Carolina driver’s license required

  • Ability to obtain NCDOT certification for various product lines

  • Must maintain current Weighmaster license in NC and VA and any other state as may be required
