Job Description

AECOM is currently seeking a Geochemist (G.I.T.) to join our team. We are looking for candidates that are enthusiastic and team-oriented with strong technical capabilities in ML/ARD and aqueous geochemistry. In this role, you will work with our experienced team of geologists, hydrogeologists and geochemists on projects in the mining, remediation, civil infrastructure, waste management, and water supply sectors across Canada and internationally. Preference is for the successful candidate to be based out of our Burnaby office. This is a Full-time role.

Responsibilities:

  • Work within a team of hydrogeologists, geologists and geochemists on a wide variety of mining, major infrastructure, remediation and oil and gas opportunities.

  • Conduct geochemical and hydrogeological investigations including drilling and logging of soil and rock core, sampling of soil, rock, groundwater, surface water and soil gas, instrumentation and monitoring well installation and sampling.

  • Contribute to the design and oversee laboratory testing programs to evaluate behaviour of soil, bedrock, mining waste and anthropogenic materials.

  • Evaluate geochemistry of solid phase (soil/waste rock/tailings), aqueous phase (inorganic/organic compounds), and stable/radioactive isotopes.

  • Support development of contaminant transport models to support environmental impact assessments, remedial evaluations and risk assessments using software packages such as PHREEQC, Geochemist's Workbench, GoldSim and other modelling packages.

  • Interpret and report solid and aqueous geochemistry data.

  • Work closely with hydrogeologists and hydrologists to develop predictive water quality models.

  • Support offices in British Columbia, across Canada, and internationally.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.Sc. in Geology, Geochemistry, Hydrogeology, or related science/engineering discipline with an emphasis on earth and environmental sciences.

  • Immediately eligible or registered as a Geoscientist-In-Training with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC) or similar association.

  • 2+ years of experience in ML/ARD assessment and development of mitigation, management and monitoring plans for mining waste. Consideration will be given for graduate research.

  • A valid class 5 driver’s license with no restrictions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • M.Sc. in Geochemistry, Geology, Hydrogeology, Chemistry or related engineering discipline with an emphasis on ML/ARD, geochemistry and water quality.

  • Ability to work independently and within a multi-disciplinary team.

  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Willingness to complete field investigations, travel, and periodically adjust personal schedules to meet project needs.

  • Experience with software packages such as Geochemist’s Workbench, GoldSim and PHREEQC is considered a strong asset.

  • Knowledge of statistical methods including familiarity with statistical software.

  • Experience with geological databases and modelling software such as Leapfrog.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $54,000.00 - $72,000.00.
