The Opportunity

  • To provide geologic and hydrogeologic related technical oversite of planning, design, analyses and studies for domestic and international dams, tunnels,and other Heavy Civil projects.

  • Functions as technical specialist supporting project and pursuit teams on dams, tunnels and other Heavy Civil projects. Will typically supervise multi-discipline engineering staff on projects of medium to high complexity and is responsible for execution of assigned projects.

  • Work would extend across national portfolio, with regional work focus if desired, and may include international projects as dictated by project need and availability.

This team has a portfolio of major civil works projects across the country that are moving the needle. Key Responsibilities

  • Support geotechnical and Heavy Civil projects including Dams, Tunnels, Mining, and Power practices.

  • Provide technical oversight and mentoring of junior staff through a combination of onsite and office based tasks including geotechnical/hydrogeological investigation, geophysical investigations and analysis, and report preparation..

  • Perform site visits of on-going construction work and oversee geotechnical field investigations, may require up to 30% field work at critical times.

  • Prepare materials for design assignments as relates to subsurface conditions. This includes analysis, calculations, equipment research, sketches, etc., required to prepare documents, specifications drawings or to meet other project requirements.

  • Plan and conduct independent evaluation, selection and adaptation of geotechnical and hydrogeological investigations and evaluation techniques, procedures and criteria.

  • Coordinate design with other personnel working on same project to minimize design conflicts.

  • Perform special studies or analyses of specific portions of a project; study includes research, investigation or coordination.

  • Coordinate with personnel in other departments and client personnel to review designs and resolve areas of concern.

  • Supervise the geotechnical, geological, and engineering work of assigned Drafters, Designers, and subordinate Geologists and Engineers. This includes work assignments, scheduling and review.

  • Plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate detailed phases of engineering work for an assigned portion of a major project or the total project of moderate scope.

  • Develop alternate methods, techniques or design concepts as required to resolve unique design problems.

Management Responsibility:

  • Assist with staffing, scheduling and mentoring Heavy Civil and Geotechnical staff.

  • Become primary contact for internal clients related to geology, hydrogeology, and mitigation.

  • Develop and review of project proposal content relating to geotechnical, hydrogeological, and geophysical scope, schedule, and budget. Contribute to and drive development of internal geotechnical investigation program, including documents for processes and best practices, staff training plans, and schedule coordination to improve coordination and execution of nationwide portfolio of field investigation work.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum of 3 years' of experience performing duties similar to those of a Geologist 5. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

Certifications

Active Professional Geologist (PG) license

Work Environment/Physical Demands

Field Work on project site, up to 40% and Typical office environment, typical construction environment, extreme weather conditions, high noise level, safety hazards (electric currents, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to chemicals), atmospheric conditions (fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, poor ventilation). Sitting, walking, talking, hearing, reading, writing, keyboarding, driving, filing, reaching, stooping, crouching, bending, standing for extended periods of time, lifting or carrying up to 40 pounds.
