Sutter Health Peer Review Coordinator, Quality Management, Per Diem in Burlingame, California

Position Overview:

The Peer Review Coordinator provides professional and technical support to the Quality Management and Professional Staff departments for activities including medical staff monitoring, quality improvement, clinical effectiveness, and special studies. Coordinates data collection, enters data, and maintains database systems for effective peer review and quality improvement. Assists in the production and dissemination of standard reports.

Identifies, selects, and analyzes cases for peer review.

  • Charts are prepared within 30 days of the next scheduled meeting.

Prepares cases for review and sends notices of cases assigned no later than 2 weeks before the next scheduled meeting or report date.

  • Photocopies and sends worksheets to appropriate physician reviewers.

  • Refers cases from one QA medical staff committee to another medical staff section or Nursing in a timely manner.

Initiates and facilitates data entry and data management.

  • Collects data through concurrent and retrospective medical record review utilizing established indicators in a timely manner.

  • Performs focus studies as requested and ensures they will be available by the date requested.

Coordinates the delivery of review equipment and materials to committee meetings.

  • Attends assigned Committee meetings.

  • Assures that computers are up and in working order with support from IT at all QA meetings.

Collaborates daily activities with QM Manager and Professional Staff Office staff.

Recognizes variations and exceptions including trends and patterns in medical practice.

  • Brings trends and patterns to the attention of clinical leadership personnel.

  • Compare/review outcomes with the Professional Staff.

  • Communicates these trends and patterns to QM Manager and appropriate Medical Staff section chair.

Inputs case information before and after committee review in the quality management databases.

  • Information is entered prior to the next scheduled meeting or report date.

  • Maintains current files for case review.

Prepares accurate reports, spreadsheets, control charts, and/or graphics for presentation to medical staff.

Actively works in support of regulatory compliance assuring that MPHS maintains full accreditation and compliance with state and federal regulations.

  • Understands specific responsibilities for regulatory compliance in the home department and ensures daily requirements for compliance are met.


Education, Licensures, and Certifications:

High School Diploma required, Associate's or Bachelor's preferred

Registered HIM Technician (RHIT) preferred

Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of disease process, anatomy, and medical terminology

Knowledge of Joint Commission standards

Knowledge of medical record coding

Ability to compile statistics

Knowledge of establishing filing systems

Possesses excellent communication skills

Computer knowledge of Windows 2000 and the Microsoft Office Products

Basic office equipment maintenance

Database experience preferred

Midas+ knowledge preferred

EPIC knowledge preferred
