Job Summary:

The Supplier Quality Engineer I works under supervision and uses established procedures to support the Crane Supplier Quality Management Strategy. The Supplier Quality Engineer I also implements a supplier quality improvement and monitoring process that optimizes the supplier performance, product quality, and business qualification with Crane.

Essential Functions:

  • Partner with Supply Chain Director and other leadership team members to determine annual supplier quality objectives

  • Implement and maintain a Supplier Scorecard that monitors supplier quality, delivery and other metrics that track the general performance of the supplier

  • Support supplier Quarterly Business Reviews, assess supplier performance, monitor corrective action status, and drive supplier to continuous improvement

  • Liaise with site Quality teams and suppliers to assure that quality issues are addressed and corrective actions are in place and being properly managed to assure root cause analysis and corrective action reporting

  • Conduct assessments of suppliers’ quality system and process control capability, and drive implementation of improvement plans

  • Partner with suppliers to develop quality control plans for assigned commodities and drive implementation

  • Conduct first article and first batch audit inspections

  • Any other task assigned by supervisor or management

Non-Essential Functions:

  • Prepare management reports and presentations regarding quality status and supplier performance

  • Support Material Review Board (MRB)

  • Actively engage and understand trends in the industry’s approach to quality and new approaches that may provide benefit to BU

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience: 0-2 years of related experience

  • Knowledge: Working knowledge of the marketplace and manufacturing technologies; Familiarity with supplier qualification processes and supplier performance metrics; Knowledge of the latest quality science tools including, FMEA, GR&R, Control plans, Capability study and reduction of variations; Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models; Exposure to lean concepts (Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen Leadership, 5S, etc); Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field; Knows and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of assigned product or program

  • Skills/Abilities: Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal skills; Effective and consistent decision making skills; Ability to work multiple problems/issues simultaneously; Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; Demonstrated ability to perform and produce results in multifunctional teams in a dynamic work environment; Demonstrated ability to rely on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals

  • Education/Certification: BA or BS degree in technical discipline

  • Eligibility Requirement: This position may require access to Controlled Data or Information. Where the position requires such access only US persons will be considered. As a US Department of Defense contractor, we are bound by International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ASQC certifications and knowledge of SPC

  • Previous experience working in regulated environment with a preference of FAA CFR 14 part 21 and part 145

  • Lean/Six Sigma certification (black belt or green belt)

  • Supplier Quality or Direct Manufacturing Experience with Electronics

  • IPC-610 Training

Working Conditions:

  • Standard office environment

  • Work requires substantial visual concentration on detail

  • Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment

  • Manufacturing operations may require the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to: eye safety glasses, gowning, masks, hearing protectors, heel/wrist straps and any other required PPE

  • May be exposed to unusual environmental conditions such as loud noises, cold temperatures, confined spaces, dust or fumes

  • Travel up to 25% required

  • Standing: 50% *percentage is approximate and may vary depending on work task

  • Sitting: 50% *percentage is approximate and may vary depending on work task

  • Lifting (in pounds): up to 25 pounds

  • Pushing (in pounds): up to 25 pounds

Top Benefits:

Salary range: $94,147 to $114,653. Several factors contribute to actual salary, including experience in a similar role or performing comparable job responsibilities, skills, training, and other qualifications. Some roles may be eligible for participation in performance-based bonus programs.
