Director of Development Job Description

Position: Director of Development

Classification: Exempt

Hours per week: 40

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday 8:30am-5:00pm, including some evenings and weekends

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent in relevant experience

  • 5-7 years in development and fundraising experience

  • Proven experience in building and managing donor relationships

  • Knowledge of and experience with relevant technology

  • Solid biblical and theological foundation and understanding

Position Summary:

The Director of Development's primary responsibility is the strategic execution and management of a comprehensive annual giving program including the coordination of supporting initiatives & drives in fundraising for The Brook Hill Fund. This position reports directly to the Director of Advancement.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Possess and model a growing relationship with Christ and accept and uphold The Brook Hill School's Statement of Faith

  • Seamlessly and deliberately integrate Biblical truth and Christian values into day-to-day duties

  • Take an active role in ensuring the school's effectiveness by identifying short-term and long-range issues that must be addressed; providing pertinent information and commentary to deliberations; recommending options and courses of action; implementing directives.

  • Work effectively with the Director of Advancement to determine annual giving goals and build strategic and tactical plans for achieving these goals.

  • Lead the Associate Directors within the Development department; Facilitate teamwork and strong working relationships, work effectively with and in support of the Associate Directors as they fulfill their responsibilities.

  • Assist in and oversee the successful planning and execution of fundraising and donor cultivation events, including but not limited to Founder's Day, Semi-annual dinner and auction, Hearts for Brook Hill events, Donor Appreciation gatherings, Tailgates, etc.

  • Work with the Director of Advancement to build a pipeline of annual donors; successfully identify, cultivate, and solicit prospects.

  • Build and manage a portfolio of 100-150+ potential or actual donors and successfully meet or exceed goals collaboratively established by department and leadership.

  • Steward and renew donors by building relationships and securing philanthropic gifts for Brook Hill's priorities/initiatives.

  • Assist with the development and implementation of strategies for successful fundraising campaigns using face-to-face solicitations, direct mail, email, phone, text, and social media outreach to solicit various constituents.

  • Attend Brook Hill events as needed to grow in relationship with current & potential donors.

  • Work to gain strong participation in annual giving and build strategies for moving donors to higher giving levels.

  • Work with the Head of School and Director of Advancement on identifying donor prospects for all Capital, Major Gifts, and Planned Giving efforts.

  • Plan, supervise, and coordinate the Annual Report of Donors.

  • Assist in overseeing the maintenance & stewardship of the donor database; write records and generate reports and mailing lists.

  • Independently exercise ethical and sound judgement to maintain donor and stakeholder confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.

  • Provide historical reference by developing and utilizing filing and retrieval systems; record meeting discussions.

  • Activate communications and marketing plan to reach our current base of donors and engage new donors.

  • Provide logistic support for Director of Advancement and as directed for Development department as it relates to fundraising activities (events, mailings, purchasing, etc.).

  • Utilize Moves Management System to enter data and create donor profiles for use by Director of Advancement.

  • Contribute to and/or create board reports for Director of Advancement.

  • Improve leadership skills through self-initiated professional development activities.

  • Occasional evening or weekend work required as it relates to the duties described.

  • Other duties as assigned by direct supervisor, the Head of School, or another designee of the Head of School.
