Coherent Corp. Director of Product Management - Laser Components, Crystals & Optics in Budd Lake, New Jersey

We are seeking a Director of Product Management for our Laser Components, Crystals & Optics product lines. This role will be responsible and accountable for driving business growth by directing key functions of the product line to include: product marketing, customer satisfaction, budgeting, product quality, R&D allocation, capital allocation, new product introduction (NPI), and project execution. The Director of Product Management reports directly to the Crystal Materials Division vice president.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Drive revenue growth of new and existing products.
Depending on the lifecycle of the product line, key metrics include gross profit, net profit, market share, revenue, and return on investment
Build, maintain, and grow a pipeline of products and projects and can constantly feed the growth of the Business Unit
Lead the new product introduction team, and initiate Product development to meet customer roadmaps and requirements to include the R&D roadmap, priority setting and allocation, New Product Introduction, and product evolution required to stay competitive and profitable
R&D allocation: manage the investment (when and when not to) required for product portfolio growth and continually monitor success through the stage gate process
Lead development of proposals in line with customer requirements
Partner with Engineering and Operations teams to provide technical direction and leadership aligned with product roadmap
Collaborate across the many global business units, segments, of the company to drive vertical integration/product offering expansion
Set pricing for the product line
Set generic book pricing
Drive and authorize customer-specific pricing
Evaluate and amend monthly Sales forecast in order to drive the material plan
Develop frameworks, processes, and models to support the product line and the business unit
Collaborate with Global Sales teams to build the organization strategy
Provide sales with customer communications messages and strategies relevant to the product line
Regularly interact with executives and/or major customers. Interactions frequently involve special skills, such as negotiating with customers and management while attempting to influence senior level leaders regarding matters of significance to the organization
Direct and controls the activities of a broad functional area through several department managers within the company. Has overall control of planning, staffing, budgeting, managing expense priorities, and recommending and implementing changes to methods in NPI.
Drive cost reductions by collaborating with Supply Chain, Automation, and Operations colleagues
Nurture global intracompany technology partnerships and collaborative product innovation by direct interactions with customers
Manage global customer project teams when needed
20% travel domestic and international when required
Attend and represent at laser and materials conferences
Recognized as an influential leader, allows for promoting new ideas

Education & Experience
BS or MS in related materials or laser field, PhD preferred
6 years in the laser components or crystal components industry
Experience leading/dealing with customers of laser manufacturing companies
5 years of direct people management experience in a production, engineering, marketing, and or development, or technology role
Demonstrated experience building ecosystems of products and executing projects

Skills
Seasoned business judgment and superior analytical abilities, particularly in strategic business and financial analysis
Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) and business acumen. Must be able to judge situations with regard to the larger business picture as well as the immediate need.
Strong planning and leadership ability to get tasks accomplished through non-direct reports. Ability to persuade and motivate others. Strong negotiation skills.
Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively at all levels of the organization. Ability, flexibility, versatility and comfort level for working with multiple individuals and personalities.
Ability to work on many projects simultaneously and follow through.
Understanding of business strategies and ability to formulate/execute plans to support said strategies.
Ability to train, coach and mentor others
