The Tax job family encompasses global roles accountable for the design and implementation of tax strategies, policies and the tax governance framework. It also includes the provision of tax support to Diageo’s business units, delivery of projects to create shareholder value, and proactive management and mitigation of key tax risks.

About you

The purpose of this role is to ensure that the UK and ROI markets’ direct tax processes (including CIT, WHT, TP and other supplementary returns) are undertaken accurately, efficiently (utilising automation and outsourcing where applicable) and on time and the surrounding internal control procedures, legislative requirements are rigorously adhered to.

About the role

  • Preparing, (or supporting the preparation of - depending on the level of outsourcing), and reviewing, CIT computation and returns and connected supplementary returns related inputs in accordance with global standard process and controls, utilising automation tools where applicable.

  • Support the annual transfer pricing processes, ensuring Diageo’s transfer pricing principles are reflected in the CIT returns

  • Proving information for routine CIT, WHT, TP and other direct tax related audit enquiries and projects for your markets under the supervisory of the Direct Tax Lead/Manager.

  • Ensuring compliance with market specific regulatory requirements and legislative changes working closely with Direct Tax Team Leader, Tax Business Partner and Outsourced service provider.

  • Preparing, reviewing balance sheet reconciliations and ensuring these are done on time and in an internal and external control compliant way.

  • Actively leading and coordinating tax document retention for your markets.

  • Supplying to continuous process improvement- through establishing a LEAN approach to drive effectiveness and efficiency- of direct tax compliance

  • Supporting the new controls and KPI report implementation, supervising the implemented KPI-s, supporting investigation of the root-cause or errors and working with end-to-end processes to improve KPIs

  • Promptly responding to market queries in respect of markets in her/his responsibility and supporting direct tax leaders, business partners, SME-s in non-routine questions, projects, and during tax audits in her/his proficiency

  • The Lead Direct Tax Analyst will not have any direct reports, however will actively supply the annual performance process by providing regular feedback on team members. The role supports the Direct Tax Team Leader in the review process and in the capability building of the Team.

What you'll bring

  • Preferably qualified accountant or tax advisor, tax accountant/analyst with 4-5 years of experience in direct tax environment

  • ATT in Corporation Tax/Business Income Tax or equivalent UK Tax qualification is preferred

  • Experience at an operational level in direct tax, controls and risk management

  • Experience with transitions and project management is an advantage

  • Experience in working with integrated software system (SAP) is an advantage

  • Experience of Tax Reporting and IFRS

  • Strong Financial process understanding at an operational level in direct tax and tax reporting

  • Good numerical skills and confident excel usage

  • Able to work with tight deadlines

  • Strong communication and influencing skills
