The System Offices is one of several system members within the Texas A&M University System representing one of the largest systems of higher education in the nation, with a network of 11 universities, a comprehensive health science center, eight state agencies, and the RELLIS Campus. Bush Combat Development Complex (BCDC), part of the Texas A&M University System (TAMUS), invites applications for a full-time Range Technologist in the focus area of Range.

The Bush Combat Development Complex (BCDC) (https://bcdc.tamus.edu/) - located on the 2,300-acre RELLIS Campus in Bryan, TX - is an ecosystem for agile technology development and service-member-inspired research. The BCDC is the result of a partnership between the Department of Defense, Texas A&M University System, and the State of Texas. The $200 million complex is designed to bring together researchers from U.S. universities, the military, and the private sector for collaboration, demonstrations, and high-tech testing of initiatives to help accelerate military innovation for our nation’s defense. Job Title:

Range Technologist, Levels I-III

Job Description Summary:

The Range Technologist independently applies advanced knowledge of scientific research or engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields at the George H.W. Bush Combat Development Complex (BCDC). The rapid design of hypersonic vehicles research team at BCDC pursues methods to enhance the assured delivery of lethal payloads, including more precise delivery over an extended range through a more comprehensive understanding of flight sciences. The objective of this project is rapid physics-based modeling for confident (precision and survivability) aerothermodynamic designs of hypersonic flight systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems in area of expertise.

  • Utilizes established engineering principles in the design and evaluation of engineering components.

  • Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities.

  • Create and interpret technical drawings and schematics.

  • Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches with some guidance.

  • Operates range maintenance vehicles (skid loader, UTVs, forklifts, telahandler, scissor lifts) and other maintenance systems and hardware to sustain range conditions.

  • Work with BCDC research teams and other customers; provide expert advice on the use of facilities to support research.

  • Provides direct support to the range operations and event phases: plan/prepare, execution, analysis and reposting, and after-action review.

  • Provide direct support to data support teams including instrumentation and range systems verification and validation.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    Minimum qualifications for a Range Technologist I

    • Bachelor's degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Minimum qualifications for a Range Technologist II

    • Bachelor's degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    ​- Two years of relevant experience.

    Minimum qualifications for a Range Technologist III

    • Bachelor's degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    • Four years of relevant experience.

    Registration, Certifications, and Licenses:

  • Must be able to gain and maintain a DoD (Department of Defense) security clearance.

  • Must currently hold or obtain a Part 107 FAA License for UAS operations license within 12 months of hire.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of computer-aided drafting techniques, and design.- Basic knowledge of mathematical formulas and computations and data gathering methods.- Basic knowledge of engineering work planning and control methods.- Basic knowledge of operating data acquisition systems and network devices.- Ability to operate range maintenance machinery and tools.- Identify needs of upcoming tests and develop solutions.- Skilled in welding and fabrication techniques.- Manage property bookkeeping records and positive control of all equipment within IPG and BAM facilities.- Ability to effectively communicate engineering solutions both verbally and in writing to management, customers, and peers.- Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

  • Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force, frequently lift or carry objects weighing up to or more than 10 pounds.- Ability to perform job duties that require standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting upper body working in cramped positions and through small openings.- Ability to work at elevated heights (20+ feet).

  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions including high and low temperatures, rain, and high winds.
