Job Description
The Engineer II on the Sustaining Engineering team is responsible for supporting all aspects of Sustaining Engineering efforts, including supporting project definition activities, leading/supporting verification and validation efforts, and overseeing implementation. In particular, it will be the responsibility of the Engineer II to advance technical efforts, while proactively identifying potential issues, to achieve a timely launch of high quality / reliable product. He or she must have a working knowledge medical device design control requirement, be able to technically contribute to the project team, and work collaboratively across the organization to ensure an effective implementation of the improvement, solution, or line extension. As the Engineer II will contribute to Design History Files, maintaining detailed documentation throughout all phases of the project is essential.
Job Duties
Contributes to product development projects and/or technology development efforts.
Contributes to all aspects of sustaining project/line extension efforts, including: project definition and project planning activities, issue / failure mode evaluation and identification, solution & prototyping activities, product design documentation updates, support of technical risk management documentation, verification testing strategy definition, testing and reporting, design validation studies (if necessary), design reviews, and supports the compilation of documents to enable regulatory submissions (if necessary).
Develops engineering solutions and collaborates with Olympus Patent Attorneys as needed.
Supports efforts to evaluate design solutions which will meet product/performance requirements, cost targets, and manufacturability requirements.
Authors product verification testing protocols and reports and ensures products meet/exceed established specifications.
Employs statistical techniques to establish exceptional product quality, reliability, and robustness.
Supports in ensuring product and performance specifications are appropriate and accurate.
Supports internal and external suppliers and manufacturers as needed. Including external design and/or development partners.
Supports engineering leadership as required.

Job Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Biomedical or equivalent preferred).
Minimum 2 years of experience with BS or 0 years with MS.
Must have working knowledge of ISO14971, IEC60601, GMP and other standards as they relate to the design and manufacture of medical devices.
Experience in Medical Device development and/or sustaining engineering efforts utilizing a stage-gate process.
Preferred:
Experience in handheld electro-mechanical devices is preferred.
Capable of creation of design control deliverables and input to the Design History file either independently or under the guidance of the project technical lead.
Proficient in Microsoft Windows Office applications including MS Outlook, MS PowerPoint, MS Project, Visio, etc.
Knowledge of software lifecycle management in compliance to EN62304.
Experience problem solving system design issues (e.g., electromagnetic compatibility).
Must be able to solve technical challenges and use good judgement in making timely decisions.
Must be able to collaborate effectively with others, works well within cross-functional teams and across multiple sites, as applicable.
Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Comfortable presenting information to team members and stakeholders.
Must be able to work in a professional open-space environment without distracting others.
Must have a positive attitude and be capable of accomplishing efforts in a timely manner and with high quality.
