As a Team Lead- Painter , you are a vital team member in the process of building CAT equipment. You can expect to Lead daily production on an industrial production paint line safely, providing manpower coverages, train and develop people, you may also manually and electronically update daily & weekly metric white boards, providing input on schedule adjustments, adjusting manpower within paint teams, and participating in daily production dialogs with team and management. As hands on lead this will also include production line paint processes wash, mask, paint, de-mask and touchup.

*THIS IS A SECOND SHIFT ROLE: 02:00PM-06:00PM*

You can also expect to provide coverage for team member absences and/or production fluctuation. This includes paint processes wash, mask, paint, de-mask and touchup. Work with support functions to identify and resolve issues related to safety, quality, process and delivery checks, as well as issues related to equipment, fixture, tool, process, quality, delivery and product/layout changes to ensure daily production schedules are met. You will coordinate continuous improvement ideas to maintain and emphasize standard work by identifying, driving, and sustaining improvements in alignment with Lean Manufacturing principles. Train and develop employees on job skills, problem solving and cross training. Provide recognition to employee contributions. You may provide input to employee reviews. Complete projects as needed. Work with limited supervision. Perform activities related to hazard waste handling.

Hours: 02:00PM-10:00PM CST M-F; overtime eligible

Work Location: Brooklyn Park, MN

Compensation: L06; Hourly + shift differential; Eligibility for overtime

Shift differentials when applicable. Quarterly Gain Sharing.

Basic Requirements:

  • 2 years’ experience in heavy equipment, automotive or military paint processing or a paint related certificate or certified trade school/technical degree in paint related field

  • Experience in top coat, prime coat and electrostatic paint

  • Ability to read blueprints/engineering drawings

  • Minimum of 6 months computer usage

  • Paint experience

Top Candidates Will Have:

  • Leadership experience

  • Heavy crane equipment experience

  • Ability to read standard work and write continuous improvement cards

  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing Principles

  • Ability to utilize computer for production transactions, standard work updates and various projects

  • Experience using paint tools including cup paint gun, sanders and buffers.

  • Knowledge of paint properties

  • Knowledge of Caterpillar standards for paint quality (1E 2001 specs for paint)

Work Environment

Complete PFT test. Exposure to paint fumes, catalyst fumes, isopropanol fumes and WASH FUMES. Exposure to wash and paint application and clean up chemicals. Use of paint and wash tools including cup paint gun, sanders and buffers.etc.Operate overhead cranes, jib cranes and hoists Lift up to 35 lbs frequently Work at multiple heights Climb on equipment, machines, ladders and various step stools Stand for a minimum of 8 hour shifts with minimal breaks Work in environment with frequently changing temperatures Exposure to magnets that may impact medical devices Kneel, squat, and crawl on knees Work in awkward positions, including forward reach, lateral reach, squat, overhead reaching, twisting, and forward head and rotation of neck. Work in tight spaces Repetitive grasping, pushing, pulling, rotating Use of fine motor skills Use of hand tools including wrenches, air tools, drills, cutters, tie wrap guns, pneumatic, vibratory, etc. Includes ability to pull manual torque tools to torque requirements (at least 250 Newton meters or 185 foot pounds) Required Personal Protective Equipment: hearing protection, safety glasses, steel toed/metatarsal foot gear, and as needed dust masks. Climb on equipment, machines, ladders, man lifts and various step stools. Work at multiple. Exposure to magnets that may impact medical devices heights. Operate material handling equipment (i.e. counterbalance, turret, reach truck, picker). Work in tight spaces. Work in awkward positions, including forward reach, lateral reach, squat, overhead reaching, twisting and forward head and rotation of neck. Required Personal Protective Equipment: hearing protection, safety glasses, steel toed/metatarsal foot gear, and protective paint clothing and equipment including respirator, painter hood, painter Tyvek suit, rain coat, rain bibs, rubber boots, rubber gloves, full face shield with hood.
