FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

New York City College of Technology of the City University of New York (CUNY), a comprehensive college in downtown Brooklyn offering 58 associate and baccalaureate degrees, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level in the Biological Sciences Department, anticipated to begin in Fall 2024.

The Biological Sciences Department is composed of a diverse group of faculty members with an impressive combination of backgrounds and specialties. To support its baccalaureate program in Biomedical Informatics and a planned associate degree program in Biotechnology, the department seeks a candidate for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the following fields: Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, and/or Genetics.

The position requires a commitment to teaching, scholarly research resulting in peer-reviewed publications and presentations, and sustained service to the department and college. Courses to be taught will depend on faculty specialty, and include Molecular Biology, Genetics, Immunology, and Biotechnology, as well as biology courses satisfying general education and allied health degree requirements. Mentorship of student research is strongly encouraged.

Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Biological Sciences, the Assistant Professor will be expected to work collaboratively to fulfill responsibilities in teaching, research and service in area(s) of expertise, and to share responsibility for committee and department assignments, including departmental administration, supervision, advisement, curriculum development and update, assessment, and other responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. degree in Biological Sciences with a focus in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Genetics or a related field in Biomedical Sciences. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior teaching experience at the college level, preferably with a diverse student population.

  • Current research in the fields identified, expertise in curriculum development, use of innovative instructional methods, and significant grant writing experience are preferred.

  • Expertise in biotechnology instrumentation including flow cytometry, HPLC/FPLC, fluorometry, and next/third generation sequencing technologies is highly desirable.

  • Experience with biomanufacturing is a strong plus.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and collaborative skills.

COMPENSATION

$75,465 - $93,134. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
