Another extension of Pratt's campus is the Research Yard, a 20,000-square-foot facility that brings together the research activities of Pratt Institute under one roof in the Brooklyn Navy Yard (BNY). Description The Department of Industrial Design is seeking passionate, dedicated, and visionary educators with innovative approaches to design pedagogy and research for two Tenure-Track positions. We are looking for one candidate focused on sustainability and another with expertise in product design. For the sustainability role, we seek an educator skilled in integrating sustainable practices throughout the design process, including eco-design, circular economy principles, and sustainable materials, to guide students in addressing environmental challenges and ethical production. For the product design role, we seek a candidate adept at developing innovative, user-centered products, with strengths in prototyping, digital fabrication, and balancing functionality with aesthetics. Ideal candidates will have a deep understanding of contemporary issues in industrial design and related fields, and bring diverse, forward-thinking perspectives. We seek educators who promote design excellence and value interdisciplinary collaboration. These roles require maintaining an active record of creative research and/or scholarship in industrial design related areas, with a focus on how these explorations inform and shape the future of design education and the profession. Applicants will also be expected to contribute to advancing initiatives that align with the department's core value and mission of examining how design can contribute to a holistic approach to individual well-being Examples of Duties Teach courses in both the undergraduate and graduate programs, including electives aligned. with the candidate's area of expertise. Demonstrate and maintain substantial creative practice and research within your field of specialization. Participate in curriculum development and assessment of student learning. Participate in committee work and other services to the department, the school and Institute. Demonstrate an ongoing commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the classroom and the community. Build interdisciplinary collaborations both inside and outside the School of Design. Carry a load of 12 converted contact hours per semester, comprising teaching and service to the department and institute. Participate in the life of the school. Qualifications A master's degree in Product Design, Industrial Design, or a related field; or an MFA, MDes, or equivalent degree in Product Engineering or a related discipline. Demonstrated excellence in teaching with a minimum of 3 years' experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
