Another extension of Pratt's campus is the Research Yard, a 20,000-square-foot facility that brings together the research activities of Pratt Institute under one roof in the Brooklyn Navy Yard (BNY). Description About the Department The Graduate Communications Design department seeks a new faculty member who will bring a unique blend of creative and technical expertise, with a strong focus on how computational practices can be applied in innovative and poetic ways. A background in fostering experimental, interdisciplinary projects and engaging with emergent technologies in ways that challenge conventional norms and stimulate critical discourse is essential. The role requires a commitment to nurturing students' creative exploration while grounding their work in a deep understanding of theoretical frameworks and practices. The department offers two degrees, an MFA in Communications Design and an MS in Packaging, Identities and Systems Design, both of which emphasize hands-on studio practice, providing students with the opportunity to develop and refine critical thinking and making skills while developing their unique design voice: a prerequisite for leadership in the communications design field. The Graduate Communications Design department adopts a future-oriented perspective by amplifying students' ability to harness the inventive potential of making, create transformative and sustainable design tools and strategies, and thrive within and beyond the multiverse of professional contexts.
