The Park School is a Pre-K to Grade 8 independent school in Brookline, MA, dedicated to excellence in education. The Athletic Director is a member of the school’s Upper Division and reports to the Upper Division Head. This full-time, 10-month position comes with the responsibility of working with faculty and staff to lead the athletic department in support of the school’s mission and curricular goals. There will be an additional 10 days of woek  in the summer for planning work. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Develop, manage, and supervise developmentally appropriate athletic programs in line with the school’s overall educational mission and goals, and accessible to all students.  

  • Work with the senior leadership team to continue to innovate and develop a strategic vision for athletics at Park.

  • Represent The Park School in all league and athletic associations and attend all meetings

  • Schedule all contests for the school’s interscholastic teams.

  • Ensure that all coaching positions are filled with competent and properly trained coaches.

  • Supervise, develop, and evaluate all coaches.

  • Prepare and implement the annual departmental budget.

  • Oversee the distribution, collection, storage, upkeep, and replacement of all school athletic uniforms and equipment.

  • Ensure that athletic fields, signage, and facilities are prepared for hosting athletic contests.

  • Communicate with both students and parents regarding appropriate expectations for each level of competition.

  • Ensure that all athletic equipment, facilities, fields, and courts are safe for daily use.

  • Report athletic achievements for both individuals and teams to the Communications Office. 

  • Maintain accurate records of the team and individual athletic statistics and accomplishments.

  • Organize coaches’ meetings at the beginning of each season to review expectations, guidelines, and rules of play.

  • Distribute weekly facility schedules so coaches can plan practices accordingly.

  • Schedule transportation for all away athletic contests.

  • Oversee and manage comings and goings on campus for Park students and families, as well as visiting teams, officials, and spectators after games

  • Secure the necessary number of qualified officials for each home contest.

  • Review and revise the department handbooks annually.

  • Distribute Parent-Student Handbook to team parents each season. 

  • Utilize feedback and reflection to improve practice and performance

  • Ensure that respect for diversity, equity, and inclusion, social-emotional learning, and academic excellence are emphasized as core values of the School

  • Participate in school community activities

  • Meet expectations as defined by the Park School Employee Essential Expectations

     

    Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.  Master’s Degree preferred.

  • Three (3) to five (5) years of teaching experience at the middle school level is preferred. 

  • Strong interpersonal skills with students, colleagues, and other adults

  • Strong communication skills, including experience in writing student comments and other school-related documents

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging in teaching and learning & experience in working in a culturally diverse community. 

  • Motivation for and interest in professional development

  • Ability to think independently along with collaborating in a team environment

  • Skill in differentiating instruction

  • ​​High integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality

  • Maintain focus and adaptability  in an energetic and, at times, loud environment

  • Effectively interpret, navigate, mediate, and resolve conflict with students and families in a timely manner. 

  • The ability to hold meetings in person and via supported video conference tools (i.e. Zoom or Google Meet)

  • Proficient or the ability to learn Google tools and other applications as adopted by the school, such as Veracross, SchoolPass, Atlas etc. 

    Physical Requirements: 

  • The ability to sit and stand uninterrupted for 30-minute periods of time.

  • The ability to traverse on and across variable surfaces (e.g. level flooring, stairs, turf, gravel, asphalt, etc.).

  • The ability to lead, supervise and accompany students to all areas of the school campus (including all indoor and outdoor areas),  including during day-to-day responsibilities and in case of emergency. 

  • The ability to position oneself  (e.g.,  stand, sit, crouch, and kneel down) in order to support students. 

  • The ability to work outdoors, year-round, in variable weather conditions.

  • The ability to lift and hold 15  lbs overhead. 

  • The ability to occasionally  transport (e.g., move or drag)  25 lbs 

  • The ability to maintain focus and composure in an energetic and, at times, loud environment
