Overview

The Senior Construction Specialist provides a leadership role in the department's training activities, including training of new employees and monitoring supervisors' performance which includes providing feedback to the Construction Manager for their development. The Senior Construction Specialist will help shape the department's culture by creating a workplace environment that promotes professionalism, employee engagement, honesty, concern, courtesy, excellence, teamwork, diversity and inclusion.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • The Senior Construction Specialist provides a leadership role in the departments training activities, including training of new employees and monitoring supervisors performance which includes providing feedback to the Construction Manager for their development.
  • Ensures implementation of the Company Safety, Health and Environmental (EH&S) programs for employees whose work is directed. Ensures that safe work practices are followed and the environment is fully protected in accordance with Company Policy and Governmental regulations.
  • Will help shape the departments culture by creating a workplace environment that promotes professionalism, employee engagement, honesty, concern, courtesy, excellence, teamwork, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Be committed to fostering a Zero Accident Culture, Diversity and Inclusion, Achieving Operational Excellence, developing an effective Cost Management Culture and Enhancing the Customers Experience along with a commitment to the Way We Work Principles, and adherence to Business Conduct.
  • When necessary, provides support for the Department / Construction Manager and General Manager with other issues such as monitoring and tracking of overall departmental performance (e.g. Key Performance Indicators KPIs), departmental and executive level presentations, and other assigned tasks necessary for the success of the department.
  • Ensuring safety and Human Performance Improvement are integrated in planning and execution of all projects and daily work activities.
  • Manage construction projects by keeping track of estimates vs actual hours worked, the Senior Specialist oversees and accounts for expenditures in labor, material, supplies and equipment.
  • Creating and tracking work orders for expense, capital & retirement account numbers through a work management system such as MAXIMO.
  • Coordinating field meetings with engineering and operations personnel as required.
  • Knowledge in project scheduling preferred.
  • Knowledgeable in power plant equipment maintenance, machine & fabrication shop operations or construction preferred.
  • Ensures all work activities are performed in a safe, efficient and reliable manner in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Establishes a working relationship with senior management of the organizations served by Construction Services to ensure shared goals are met.
  • Ensures safe work practices are followed and the environment is fully protected in accordance with Company policy and governmental regulations.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • High School Diploma/GED and 7 years related experience. 7 years of work experience in the Construction field related to the Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Construction and associated equipment or
  • Associate's Degree and 5 years related experience. 5 years of work experience in the Construction field related to the Civil, Mechanical, or ElectricalConstruction and associated equipment or
  • Bachelor's Degree and 4 years related experience. 4 years of work experience in the Construction field related to the Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Construction and associated equipment
Preferred Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree and 4 years related experience 4 years of work experience in the Construction field related to the Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Construction and associated equipment
Relevant Work Experience
  • REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS
  • Required
  • Able to read and interpret engineering drawings and be able to analyze tasks to develop detailed estimates and schedules for construction projects Preferred
  • Minimum 4 years of work experience in responding to operational emergencies in support of Con Edisons commodities
  • Minimum 4 years Experience interacting with stakeholders, both internal and external to the Company during normal and emergency conditions
  • Minimum 4 years of work experience in the Construction field related to the Electric, Gas and Steam distribution systems and associated equipment
  • Able to work independently as well as in a team to make sound technical and business decisions
  • Experience and knowledge of construction work associated with facilities such as Generating Stations and or Substations
  • Demonstrated computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word/Excel/PowerPoint), and knowledge of Microsoft Project
  • Well organized, able to balance priorities, handle multiple assignments, develop a strategic plan and take decisive action to meet deadlines
  • PREFERRED EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS
  • Thorough knowledge and experience and demonstrate a strong understanding of the electrical specifications and procedures, including the General Instructions Governing Work on System Electrical Equipment (Rule Book) and the National Electric Code (NEC) related to Con Edison facilities

  • Driver's License Required
Additional Physical Demands
  • Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
  • Must be willing and able to work in hot or cold climates during emergencies i.e. Storm Duty.
  • Must be willing and able to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays as required.
  • Must be willing and able to push, pull, lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be willing and able to travel throughout the company service territory.
  • Must be willing and able to sit or stand to answer a phone for entire shift
  • Must be willing and able to sit or stand to use a keyboard, mouse, and computer for entire shift.
  • Must have excellent manual dexterity and be able to use hands for entire shift.
  • Must be able to stoop, bend, reach and kneel throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to stand to use operate office equipment for entire shift.
  • Must be able to read small print and symbols.
  • Must be willing and able to wear proper PPE.
  • Must be willing and able to use personal vehicle and transport, store, and secure company laptop computers and other job related equipment in the vehicle (reimbursement for use of personal vehicle is available through the company mileage procedure).
