Candidates from outside or within State Service can apply.Minimum Qualifications: Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement – Statewide (NY HELPS) program as a Safety & Security Officer Trainee 1 if they have a High School or equivalent diploma or higher degree.ORCandidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they are reachable on the current Safety & Security Officer Trainee 1 eligible list.ORCandidates from within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.In order to be advanced to the full performance level of this title, Safety & Security Officer 1 SG-12, you must successfully complete a 1-year traineeship and Academy Training mandated by the Municipal Police Training Council.The selected candidate will be tested for proficiency in Spanish and must pass at Level 3 proficiency to be considered for appointment. Proficiency must be at a level that will assure your ability to satisfactorily perform the duties of the position.New York State Residency and United States Citizenship: At the time of appointment, you must be a resident of New York State and a citizen of the United States. Employment requires that you maintain your residency in New York State.License Requirements: At the time of appointment and as a condition for continued employment, you must possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State. Conditional and Restricted licenses are not acceptable.Peace Officer Requirements: Safety and Security Officers have peace officer status as authorized under Criminal Procedure Law Section 2.10 and Sections 7.25 and 13.25 of Mental Hygiene Law or Section 455 of Public Health Law. As such, they must meet the requirements for appointment to public office defined in Public Officers Law Section 3 (1) and for continued employment as required in Section 30.Physical/Medical Requirements: Your physical and medical condition will be evaluated to ensure that you are able to satisfactorily perform the essential duties of the position to which you are seeking appointment with or without reasonable accommodation. The medical examination will be required upon a conditional offer of appointment. You are responsible for payments of the clinical laboratory test fees. The physical/medical standards include a physical fitness test, a medical standards evaluation, and a substance abuse screening. Duties Description As a Safety & Security Officer, you are responsible for maintaining safety and security, environmental health, and protection in the buildings and grounds at [Facility Name] including:• Patrolling and inspecting assigned areas; ensuring areas are properly locked and secured.• Conducting safety inspections of assigned areas and equipment for compliance with safety codes and regulations.• Screening visitors and vehicles, issuing temporary parking permits and badges.• Transporting or escorting individuals, visitors, and employees on and off facility grounds.• Responding to incidents and emergencies.
