Minimum Qualifications Must have possession of a license and current registration to practice medicine in New York State, and certification in psychiatry by the ABPN.ORLimited Permit Option: You may be eligible for appointment to Psychiatrist 1 or 2 if you have licensure in another state or Canada AND a current limited permit to practice medicine in New York State. If appointed, you must obtain your license within one year of the date your limited permit was issued. Failure to do so will result in removal from your position.

Duties Description Provides a variety of psychiatric care and treatment services to assigned individuals, or for a facility, unit, and/or program.Obtains, reviews, clarifies, updates, and records individual information, such as psychiatric and medical histories, test results, diagnoses, prescribed treatments, and individual responses.Conducts psychiatric screenings, evaluations, and examinations; orders, performs, and interprets diagnostic tests and procedures; determines and/or confirms diagnoses; and treats a variety of psychiatric conditions.Prescribes and/or administers psychiatric treatments, medications, therapies, and/or other care to treat individual conditions; conducts follow-up examinations and monitors individual conditions, modifying treatment as needed.Collaborates with other health care professionals and disciplines to achieve treatment goals and objectives and ensure continuity of care. Explains and discusses procedures, test results, diagnoses, and prescribed treatments with individuals, families, and caregivers, and answers questions.Refers individuals to other health care providers based on diagnostic and treatment needs.Assesses individuals for admission, transfer, or discharge to and from treatment programs, facilities, or units.Participates in discharge planning and recommends or approves individual discharges.Maintains documentation consistent with agency, State, and federal requirements.Supervises individual care activities; and prescribes, orders, and oversees the administration of treatments.Consults with and advises other Psychiatrists, physicians, medical providers, and health care disciplines on diagnoses and treatment plans; and reviews and approves treatment recommendations.Provides clinical supervision, guidance, and training to other medical professionals, nursing, and direct care staff; and monitors the coordination and implementation of care.Reviews individual records to confirm diagnoses, and/or ensure that treatments are appropriate for diagnoses and that records are properly maintained.May assign individuals and individual care activities to other Psychiatrists, physicians, and/or medical providers; approve leave and track time and attendance; and complete performance evaluations.Serves as a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team, attends meetings, and serves on various committees and workgroups to improve individual services and outcomes.Assists in the development, implementation, and revision of psychiatric and other clinical policies and procedures.May develop, implement, and/or supervise residency and medical training programs, and health care and treatment education programs.Psychiatrist 2 provides clinical supervision to Psychiatrists, physicians, and/or other medical providers. May manage and supervise psychiatric care and treatment services for an assigned facility, unit, or program; perform the full range of supervisory duties; and develop, implement, and revise clinical policies and procedures.
