POSITION DETAILS

The Director of the Office of Career Development (OCD) reports to the Dean of Workforce Development and Continuing Education (WDCE) in the Office of Academic Affairs. This role presents an exciting opportunity to lead BCC's OCD through a transformation to make it a national model for responsive, tech-forward, data-driven, student-and employer-centered career services that prepare community college students for in-demand internships and jobs.

WDCE's mission is to equip the greater BCC community with technical and professional skills to launch family-sustaining careers in support of the overall economic development of the Bronx. We do this by offering low-and no-cost training and certifications for community members and BCC students in high-demands sectors, such as education, healthcare, green jobs, and IT. In addition, our Office of Career Development provides students with job-readiness and career-building services and connections to internships and jobs. We are a front-door for employers to BCC. ensuring degree and training programs are responsive to employer demand and employers see BCC as a go-to source of talent.

Within WDCE, OCD prepares all Bronx Community College students-both degree-seeking and continuing education-for internships, and jobs related to their education. OCD achieves this goal by delivering career-building services, programs, and events and partnering with employers. The OCD team is comprised of Career Specialists, who deliver career services directly to degree-seeking and continuing education students, and college assistants who support the work. The team is funded through a combination of permanent and grant-funded lines. New this year, OCD is partnering with an outside non-profit to run a professional attire boutique on campus, providing job-ready students with new, no-cost clothing for interviews and events.

Under the direction of the Dean, the Director's will:

  • Direct student-centered, fast-paced programming

  • Attend external events on a regular basis to build employer partnerships that lead the hiring

  • Participate in cross-Campus initiatives

  • Use existing data to set goals and strategic plan

  • Present at local and national conferences

  • Trian and manage staff, oversee events and programs, and report on program effectiveness

  • Provide day-to day management of a team of Career Specialists and supporting staff, including hiring and performance management

  • Oversee the rollout of new campus-wide platforms; conduct and internal audit to streamline OCD processes for students and staff

  • Monitor program budgets and expenditures for both Tax Levy and grant budgets

  • Assess existing and new technology platform usage and make recommendations

  • Execute the launch of a new professional attire boutique on campus

  • Develop processes and oversee the collection of data, analyze progress toward annual goals, and provide regular reports to the Dea,

  • Revamp Marketing materials to increase visibility and awareness of OCD on campus

  • Liaise/partner strategically with other teams on campus

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and eight years' related experience required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Track record successfully leading a team through transformation and changes in processes and at times expectations

• Experience navigating higher education structures/culture

• Knowledge of emerging trends in career services and hiring in NYC; knowledge of/a desire to research new best practices in work-based-learning, apprenticeships, and stackable/micro credentials

• Track record executing on complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives with a customer service mentality

• Proven ability to build partnerships internally at an organization and externally with community organizations and employers

• Flexible, “roll-up-your-sleeves,” and persistent attitude

• Clear writing and presentation skills of both quantitative and qualitative information

• Experience managing multiple budgets

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

  • Establishes goals, objectives, and plans for providing career services; assesses and reports outcomes to management and the overall College community

  • Directs overall operations of physical and virtual career centers, including staff, facilities, and technologies

  • Plans and implements marketing strategies for identifying and cultivating a diverse group of potential employers

  • Plans, promotes, and markets services and information to students, including information resources, career counseling, informational programs, and assessment programs

  • Hires, trains, and manages full- and part-time staff as well as student interns

  • Collaborates with other academic and administrative units to promote the goals of the career office

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

$111,560 - $141,858; salary is commensurate with education and experience.
