CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION
The Radiologic Technology Program is designed to provide students, who will work under the direction of a radiologist, with the essential skills needed to use ionizing radiation as a means of determining the nature of disease or injury. Students participate in classroom lectures, activities in the department's energized laboratory, and clinical experiences at affiliate hospitals. Learning approaches include the use of audio tapes, radiographic films, slides, computers, and laboratory assignments. Responsible for the production of these images and is an essential member of the health care team. The Radiologic Technology Program is accredited by The New York State Department of Health, Bureau of Environmental Radiation Protection, and The Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology.
The Radiologic Technology Unit at Hostos Community College seeks applications for a College Laboratory Technician. The successful candidate will report directly to the Coordinator of the Radiologic Technology Program. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Coordinates the physical preparation of the labs and provides one on one supervision of all students
Assists in the administration of the lab by providing student guidance as it pertains to equipment manipulation, interpretation of lab objectives and facilitating student analysis of experimental results
Troubleshoots all equipment problems that arise during lab sections
Supervises the open labs with the use of x-ray equipment and audiovisual equipment for individual study and assist students with theoretical concepts as needed
Oversees equipment specification, purchase, and acceptance testing
Tests equipment for Quality Assurance to ensure that the Radiologic Technology Laboratory meets the requirements of Article 175 of the New York City Health Code
Works closely with field service engineer to isolate and repair x-ray systems and related equipment and ensures that the system is operating within the limits set by the NYC Health Code
Orders supplies for the lab and keeps inventory of all fixed, non-fixed, and consumable items
Generates purchase specifications for equipment to maintain accurate records of purchase
Essential duties require on-campus presence
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma with a minimum of four years' related experience. Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate degree may be substituted for two years experience, and a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for four years experience.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
The following qualifications are preferred:
American Registry of Radiologic technologists (ARRT) certified and licensed to practice diagnostic radiography by the New York State Department of Health (NYDOH)
Bachelor's degree
Knowledge of both theoretical and practical aspects of the discipline and supervision of students
Experience with instruction on the use of all energized laboratory equipment, including digital processing and auxiliary equipment
Experience with supervision of equipment which generates ionizing radiation
Availability to work evening and weekend hours

$52,559 - $65,896; Salary commensurate with education and experience.
