Your Specific Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for dental assistant activities at the Levy County Health Department and backup for dental front desk clerical duties. This position is full time Monday thru Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. This position requires a dental assistant certificate and expanded dental function certiciate. This position my also provide backup support at the Dixie or Gilchrist Dental clinic and may be required to travel/drive between health departments.

Assists Dentist during exams and performs expanded functions as defined by licensure and guidelines provided by the State of Florida. Makes radiographs and takes intraoral photos of intraoral structures.

Responsible for breakdown, cleaning/disinfecting of instruments and equipment and setup for next patient. Maintains dental equipment daily, weekly or monthly, as recommended by the manufacturer. Documents maintenance on logs. Prepares, sterilizes, and stores dental instruments according to OSHA standards and guidelines. Monitors supply inventory and places inventory that is low or needed on the supply order form. Responsible for maintaining cleanliness and order of dental unit daily, including wiping down chairs and equipment and countertops and keeping supplies and forms organized.

Communicates with parents regarding care that is planned. Assists front desk clerk with scheduling return appointments. Verifies that all appropriate paperwork is in the hard copy chart or electronic health record prior to client being seen. Reviews billing sheet for completeness prior to giving to front desk for billing. Confirms all client appointments 2 days prior to appointment, allowing adequate time to refill slots or cancellations.

Provides backup support at the front desk for the dental program when needed answering phones, scheduling client appointments, checking in clients, registering new clients in the computer. Assists the front desk clerks with filing client records, making new patient packets and folders, copying forms, sending out recall notices and appointment reminders, confirming client appointments, pulling client records for clinic visits, verifying re-call dates on mail-outs. Performs other related duties as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of sterilization equipment

  • Knowledge of Xray/processor equipment

  • Knowledge of dental lab equipment

  • Qualifications:

    Minimum

  • Valid Dental Assistant Certificate.

  • Basic Computer Skills.

  • Willing to travel and have reliable personal transportation.

  • Expanded Dental Functions Certificate.

  • Dental Xray Experience.

  • Willing to work between Levy, Gilchrist and Dixie Counties.
